What is the fascination with chianti.... To My mind little more than something for the tourists or for giving to those relatives you dont really like....

A nice bottle of Aldo Conterno Barolo Granbussia and you will soon see the error of your ways...
Chianti is WAYYY over-rated ... only thing I use it for is to make stracotto and a glass or so isn't bad with that dish.

Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is the most under-rated and under-appreciated

    It is good.

The stuff from Umbria is quite good, too. (Name escapes me; another San Giovese clone, I think---but, then again, everything in Italy is)

Assuming that was about normal straight sex: I have. Several times. Part of my policy to try everything I feel I should try in my life 3 times before I make up my mind about it.
    Luckily I don't follow that policy :D.

Though the Fruili is da bomb for that.

But they also do small production wines that are quite excellent ... their Poggi lines, etc.

Take a look at Francis Ford Coppola or even Mondavi. They make crap wine in the U.S. for the masses. The kind who would buy a wine called "Turning Stomach" because it's advertised in the back of American Mouthbreather magazine with a photo that suggests the hot-but-wholesome girl they wanted to nail in college but who knew better than to ever talk to them.

Coppola and Mondavi have low-case-production wines that can be quite excellent on the high end. Same with Banfi.
True about Coppola...I picked up a few bottles at the Coppola_Niebaum (sp?) estate that was actually not bad at all...although I don't think they are available outside the bay area

I love touring Napa.....but the foothills to the east of the valley make wines that are as good, and cheaper. :)
