In the Catholic belief, the sole purpose of sex is to reproduce. A condom, as well as many other contraceptives, prevent this from occuring. Why would the Vatican Council allow such a device?

And then comes the whole AIDS epidemic. The Church could do nothing about everyone ****ing around. After all, if I recall correctly, they believe sex after marriage.

There is no evidence that any of these religions have a basis in reality yet I am criticised for saying so, as if I should feel guilty about upsetting people's feelings and somewhat inferior for not believing. Which is texactly the crime you accuse me of. If you're not happy with the way I debate things, you could at least be a tad more objective and criticise your american buddies too. If thats not beyond you, it would be a refreshing change of direction.

Actually that hypothesis is widely accepted. Jesus was someone who lived in the margin of society and therefore made his own religion. The Jesus fairytale we read doesn't make any sense. Also note that Christianity has a lot in common with most sects, there's no need to act all holy about it. Banning my brother for this post was completely unfair and biased.

In strong religious countries what the pope says is that the people do. So in a way he does hold a gun to their head. Not having sex isn't always that easy in poorer countries either.

As for the "scared" argument, that's only logical. There's no other reason to believe in God than fear. You're scared because you don't know why you live and you don't know what will come after death. So you invent your own God, who gives you guidance.
