Thats a bit unfair Vinnie, don't you think? I mean, the bigest nations have already offered their help, the UN has said that they have offered their help but that they cant do anything until the US asks them to. Other than that you really cant expect help from many more countries, and you can not compare this to the tsunami disaster.

When you say that you should turn your backs (by you I mean America) to nations begging for your help did you consider that those nations are in dramatically different circumstances than the US? Most of the nations that need help have nothing to offer, as even in times when there arent many natural disasters they have plenty of problems and not nearly enough money or resources. You cant say that you should stop helping countries because they didnt help you because the circumstances are uncomparable.


You cant and shouldnt expect much help from anyone other than the major nations.

I have no problem with ppl taking food from stores to survive. Me personally, if I had to do it, I would take what I needed, and when this tragedy was over, I would go back to the store, find the manager, and pay for the items I took. I'm no thief or burglar...its the right thing to do

As far as these ppl taking plasma tv's, jewelry, and firearms, and running back to the highrise housing project they live in with the goods, to sell them later, or commit a crime with the weapons, I have no problem with the governor giving the order of shooting to kill

All good points Vinni, especially the part about citizens looting grocery stores. Anybody, I don't care who you are, from the Chief of Police of New Orleans to President Bush, if you were in the same position as those people down there now you would do anything to survive. This includes taking neccesary supplies from a grocery store. Half of the items in the store would perish anyway due to lack of refrigeration, and lost money is not the same thing as lost life.

And it would be interesting to see what would happen if we did not help another country after the next natural disaster. Even when we gave millions and millions to the Tsunami victims people were still not very thankful and demanded more. I know it's our duty to help out other human beings, however if there is no help in return that is not a very fair deal. Even a thank you from some people would be enough.

If we indeed do not help out the next victim of mother nature I'm very sure our already tarnished reputation would fall to even lower levels, certainly generating more "soldiers" against us, so therefore it's in our best interest to give even though we might not receive.

I just wonder how every television crew in America made it into New Orleans but the National Guard could not. Babies are dying on the streets and we can stick tv cameras in their faces but can't give them bottles of water.

Also, everyone is focused on New Orleans. If only one city was effected the relief effort would be different, but the reality is that every coastal town and village Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana has been leveled.

Its somewaht different in the case of the likes of america....

In these cases involving western countries.... there isnt likely to be a large number of cash donations... As money isnt whats needed in america....

Where as money is offered to third world nations in these incidents in the case of the developed world you will see more offers of required aid and rescue workers etc....

You have to look to what is needed.... america as with us, if such a thing was to happen... do not need money

I hear the Sri Lankan government has passed a 200 million € Hurricane Aid bill to help the US.

I dont think its about who has more economical power or not, they just dont need money, they need aid workers and stuff to give the refugees such as food, clothes, etc.
Its about being human and caritative (I dont know if thats a word) it times like this and just try to help them with whatever you have. Its the thought that counts.

If you find that funny then you are laughing at a false rumour. The USA has requested no outside help.

And, btw, money is not at issue, as many have already stated. HUndreds of thousands have no place to stay, as their homes have been destroyed. This is the main problem - finding shelter for all these people. No foreign state can provide that help, though the offers are generous and we are certainly thankful. It is nice to have allies, especially in times of crisis.

On another note, I find it strange that this happens in a land like the US. I just couldn't imagine something like that hurting The Netherlands or Belgium that much. One way or another I have more trust in our governments than in the American.

TBH, I'm not loving it, no reason why I should. All I'm saying is that Andy's and Vinnies way of thinking is wrong. You cant expect countries the US usually helps do the same as they simply dont have the resources. You cant, for example, cut funding to Thailand because they didnt contribute for the Hurricane crisis as they simply dont have the resources and have plenty of problems at home.


Contraqry to popular belief, I dont hate the US.
