Btw, the big white building in the middle-right background is the Marina Middle School ... as a Red Cross volunteer, I helped set it up as a shelter following the 1989 earthquake. The fire shown in all the media was just to the left of it.

One of my stranger experiences in life was coming back to the middle school after a day of field work in the Marina. Because of the affluence of the area, top-end restaurants donated amazing food to all the shelter residents. I had the best meal I had in years there, and I had it in the school cafeteria ... sitting at a McDonald's-style table bolted to the floor with seats intended for 10-year-olds and paintings of Sesame Street characters all over the walls.

Someone is still bound to make a concept restaurant out of that...

Ive heard New Orleans has great nightlife
Anywhere in the States you can walk up to a street-side window counter and order a 40-ounce Hurricane "to go" -- and take with you to drink on your walk to the next club -- better have a pretty good nightlife. :D

Greg...the 'ski idea' is pretty damn incredible..if it happens. When I was there last month I decided to be a traveller rather than a tourist and walk back from the Hyde Street Pier to my Hotel close to Union Square ... needless to say that Marlboro light dangling from my mouth didn't do wonders as I trekked up the hills. Kept needing a break..where is Agricola when you need him :cheesy:

Sergio..welcome back. My friends in the Bay Area claim our Niners will suffer another poor season despite the arrival of Alex Smith ... prediction is they will win 4 games...what do you think?
    Greg..any comments?

Dude, did you know SI or somebody put the Lions on top of the NFC North this season in their predictions? How crazy is that?
Andy, I also am picking the Lions in the North. However, if SI picked the Lions then they are done - won't even make the playoffs. SI is the Kiss of Death. Last year they picked KC vs. Carolina for the Super Bowl and both missed the playoffs. As a second pick they had NE vs. Seattle. Well, a blind Siberian could have picked NE, and Seattle was pure shit.

It's no surprise that the smoking rates are so low here. Every morning a street sweeper does a drive-by at the bottom of all the tall hills to pick up the leftover tourists from the more tobacco-friendly states. :skull:

I'll split the difference between this season and last: 3 wins. The good news for 49er fans?: that means they all can't be against Arizona this time. ;)
