Its amazing how time and time again whether meant as a joke or not we have to listen to this bullshit and everyone thinks its fine... until of course some one says something back... then its some horrendous crime...

Be a bigot and you have to expect it back

Times like this help us all to realise how futile internet forums are. And seperates the no-lifers from the lifers.

Sergio, Jae and Pado all obviously have a real life to attend to. I'll be sticking around with Nick and co because we are pathetically sad bastards who have nothing else to do. :D

Double standard.. my arse... Where have i personally, insulted some one due to their nationality, creed , religion etc... I havent....

SO NO THERE IS NO DOUBLE STANDARD

Well, I am now officially sick of your bullshit line. Racists everywhere, under every stone, but not here in England, no we're the ones that are right.
Again... where exactly did i say that??

oh yes... No fvcking where cause i never have...
Every nation has its share of all kinds.. and i have never said differently...

The only double standard here is that whilst it is fair to make comments about the english ... theres an uproar when a comment is made about an italian or american

Then of course... theres the oh well it was a joke... oh yeah.. hey lets make racist comments.. its ok cause we'll jus say we were joking afterwards... get real!!

You should readd what i write before going off at me for something i never said

"Well, it's hard to say where a man goes wrong, might be here and it might be there.
What starts out weak might get too strong, if you can't tell foul from fair.
But it's hard to judge from an angry throng of hands stretched into the air.
So all you critics sit alone. Youre no better than me for what youve shown."

Neil Young said that.
"The vigilante people.
Taking law into their own hands, conscientious people.
Cracking down on the druglord's land, government people.
Confiscating all the dealer's land, patch-of-ground people."

Yeah. :)

    For the record:

    Nick made shots at:
Claires looks, Don Bes' weight, Don Bes for being an illegal immigrant and much more. Just hoke around.

    Hypocrite :D
    Wiping arses again I see..
I would like to point out: NOTE the fvckin difference between taking a SHOT at someone personally: fatso...calling someone a crack addict because of weight and joking about immigrant issues as 'playful banter'. Ask Donny what it was if you are unsure.
    AND
the difference when talking about a group and then picking on physical attributes they share to make your argument.
The first one is being a jerk..the second is a bigot.
    PURE AND SIMPLE.

i.e. Joe you fat smelly horse's ass..eat a goddamn carrot once in a while.
versus....Joe's, Mary's and Gino's...you have an almighty attitude only because you think your Italian descent makes you 'sexy' (ok up to this point then..) does your greasy hair and greasy skin make you think your so great (obviously trying to imply that those physical attributes are WHAT THEY are really about).

Its not about YOUR VIEWS Jae..its not about YOUR WORLD and what you are exposed to: a common trait among Italians is dark hair that looks 'greasy' (by the way the same line was used in New Orleans at the turn of the century when they accused two Italians of being anarchists and later hung them) and dark olive oil (term) skin that looks "greasy": because they have what you call these LESS THAN DESIRABLE attributes they should not act so cocky. That was your point.

Real classy sh*t..I thought you were one of the many college students who were labeled 'lazy with no work ethic' by society all the while being quite insightful, intelligent and grounded. IN reality you have proven to be a child who still has some growing up to do.

Paul: Its not an English thing...its a RACE THING. Its one thing to say 'French have hairy armpits....Italians have facial hair like their mother and Brits have bad teeth' its another to try to use physical attributes to make an argument about a class of people. Last time I checked the individuals blamed for HYPOCRISY never made statements about English groups i.e. HOOLIGANS or whatever and then used something like "bad teeth" to make a point.

That's absolute rubbish and you know it Paul. There is no "uproar" when somebody insults me and my fellow Americans, apart from myself working alone against the plethora of insults directed towards my race and nation.. From Nicole saying 99% of Americans are ignorant, to Emma's and Jaecole's favorite cocky ignorant American idiot lines, to the other 30 or so remarks in in this very thread just a few days ago.....I don't see anybody but myself doing anything about it, so there goes your theory. All I ever hear around here is how the British are always "oh so respectful" when it comes to this matter, and cry foul when it comes back their way. Now we have this little debacle....for all I care cry about it. It's a shame it has to be this way, but if you are going to dish it, be prepared to take it. Especially Jaecole.

    I agree, Andy

I'm not leaving you hanging out to dry, I'm just sick of defending America here to people who think they know more about our country than we do

    because he's english, right?
WOW Fli, you really caught me there.

No offense but I'm pretty sure you're taking up the wrong profession....lawyers are supposed to be able to examine a situation, form a reasonable opinion by deducing the facts. You seem to get confused a lot, unfortunately. I would think it would be quite simple to understand the difference between TALKING FOOTBALL and TALKING about RACE and NATIONALITY, but I suppose not in your unfortunate case. Hopefully you understand me now, even after the ump-teenth million time I have explained myself.

Now go crawl back to your shanty.

Oh I know Vinni, and infact I don't blame you. No matter what we do, shit keeps flying back in our faces. I find it rather funny they continue to label us as ignorant time after time, especially since they probably marvel over their own work.

I cant believe you are actually saying one insults ok and one isnt....

You sit there and go mad at jae for using the stereotype that italians are greasy (which i agree is wrong to say) yet you say its fine for you to use the stereotype that english have bad teeth...

Sorry but No... they are both insulting and there is absolutely no difference between them...

You cant choose which ones are ok and which arent...

If italian people find the stereo type that jae used insulting... then it is and shouldnt be used.

As with if english people find your comments insulting, then again they are and shouldnt be used

but if you are going to dish it, be prepared to take it.
So when exactly have i done these things....

I have criticised the american goverment... I have criticised the american people over the issue of low donations, I have had a go at you personally for the america is all holy attitude you get on occasion when you are riled by these discussions.... But no i have never insulted american people as a whole in anyway...

In fact if you look through the threads you will see i have stood up for america when you and vinni have been in these arguments many times... inc for example one of the threads that caused vinni to leave in the past...

Yet i still have to be insulted because of what others say... Sorry but that is not right...

If you make these stereotypical insults at one person in an argument then you are by the nature of the beast insulting every other member of that nationality... whether intended or not...

And that is why i say these comments should be stopped.... You wanna argue with someone, insult them not their nationality....

People argue against the american goverment... then show they are wrong or if needed show things their goverment has done....There is no need or excuse to use stereotypes and the like to insult the countries people

THere is no difference here between these comments and any other form of racism or bigotry.... that is not accepted... so why should this be

Sant-Eustachio is a place I frequented when I didn't live in Rome....since I have been living in Rome I stayed away only because it is close to Piazza Navona and a 'tourist-zone'.
No question, I need to spend much more time in the corners of Italy drinking espresso in the manner I have in the corners of SF. :D So I can definitely follow a trend more among the establishments for the locals where they serve Illy from a can or Lavazza from a brick.

By the way, dare I ask but: what machine do you have at home?
I remember seeing a Gaggia or was it Pavoni model a year or so ago that was basically a manual maker...are those any good?
It's a Gaggia Factory G106. One of these days I'm just going to plunk down the cash on eBay and get me a real plumbed-in job -- like a Rancilio or an Elektra (a Faema would be really sweet, and dream on about the La Marzocco). But for personal use, it does me fine. I like the "zen" feel of the manual -- not unlike how a manual transmission feels versus an automatic (that and the pump noises from even the best home machines can be irritating). It's another personal control point that connects you to the process.

I don't know if Gaggia makes them anymore. I later learned that they didn't make them at all, really. I believe La Pavoni just private labelled their Europiccola line for the Gaggia Factory, added a few custom knobs, and then sold it for a slight discount. You can also tell because the portafilter is that odd La Pavoni 51mm or so size instead of the standard 58mm.

Still, it's a great machine. It makes good espresso for a home machine, heats up rather quickly, and it also looks good (important for taking over kitchen counterspace from my wife with it ;) ).

As much as you also seem to drink the stuff, if you're looking to get into a home machine yourself, don't look for anything cheaper than a Rancilio Silvia at about $400. It's been a fine machine for home for years, and anything less just doesn't have enough pressure or heat control.

And while you're at it, don't forget getting a good burr grinder. People miss that critical point after getting a good machine. I wound up getting an Italian Mazzer Mini, which makes my home look like I'm running a *$s, but it makes a big difference at that end of the spectrum. As you may know, good espresso is all about the 4 Ms: Miscela, Macinazione, Macchina, and Mano (blend/roast, grind, machine, and the person using them).
