No way, gray. I know there is no way for you to know this, but 80% of Raleigh's population is made up of relocated Northerners (like myself). Out of One Million people, 600,000 have lived in Raleigh less than 20 years and 300,000 have lived here less than 10 years. So, we don't have the great sense of Community that one might think.
As someone who once briefly lived in Durham, part of the triangle with Chapel Hill and Raleigh, I can attest to what Padovano is saying here. Though you just drive 30 minutes outside of that "triangle" (what I often called something of a preserve for NY expats) and you are face-to-face with the "true" South.

I remember the first time I went with a co-worker on a summer job there to her home town of Butner-Creedmoor for a party. The biggest local employer is a mental institution, and everyone in town goes to the same parties -- and seems to have strange alliances and grudges because they honestly all seemed to have slept with each other in town at some point.

Call it bias if you'd like, but that was my honest experience there from that town.

That is a different kind of Triangle - Oxford, Butner, Creedmoor - and you are correct in your evaluation of that lawless area. In addition to the mental hospital, Butner is also home to a Federal Prison that once was home to Marion Berry, former Mayor of Washington D.C., and all 'round cocaine addict. Not the best area of our state.

In almost total agreement with you Libero,
Though i must comment on the following quote :

For the record, my best friend here is English. He calls me every name in the book, from pizza-faced surrender monkey to lady boy woperino. I return the compliment with the likes of red-faced roastbeef muncher and bad teethed limey bastard. It’s all good though.
That is a scenario im pretty sure we all have in our lives... But you cant compare the insults passed between friends... With friends there are virtually no boundaries to the insults you can hurl at each other in general day to day life without any negative thought amongst you...

However that is not relevant on an internet forum or towards anyone who is not close to yourself... You wouldnt get away with those comments on the street and you shouldnt be able to here either

Libero, to make you happy, I will address one of Paul's unaddressed "valid" points.
Firstly robert... you took this totaly out of context and as an attack on america and its people... It wasnt...

It was purely a point that led from something else as a step to another... You make it much more than it is.

Paul claims that the cheap bastard Americans contributed "only" 350 Million Dollars to Tsunami relief. What Paul did not include is that this "paltry" figure is the amount contributed from U.S. government coffers.

Individual American contributions (and I do not have exact figures) probably triple that amount. Why do I say that? Because I know that the united efforts of Raleigh-based (my city) churches collected 1.8 Million dollars for Tsunami victims, in addition to the 1.2 Million dollars raised in the parking lots of shopping centers and the charity car washes across Raleigh over the month of January 2005. So, if a little place like Raleigh (population near 1 Million) can raise an even 3 Million dollars, then I can project that figure to the hundreds of thousands of other communites in the USA and guess that Americans gave more than anybody else.

Now i have to question whether you actually read what i wrote or jus reacted??
Because it is clear as day in what i wrote that the $350 mil was from the US goverment and DID NOT include individual donations.

(a quick comparison - US GOV donated $350 mil -- UK GOV donated $820 mil)

So bearing in mind the first part of my post was only talking about govermant contributions... When i said that the US gov gave less than many tiny (comparitively to the US) european countries... That my friend was true... ANd the observation tied in as an example for the argument...

I said further down that individual contributions were also imo low...
Now i dont know the exact figures (for anywhere other than the UK (£420 mil)) But my comment was based on breakdown of total world wide contributions which was printed across the international press about 2 months ago which listed the US' individual donations as lower than i personally would have expected and not on the top of the list....

Even if your thought of 3 times the gov contribution was right (i dont beleive it tobe, but im not going to question it)... That would be $1500 mil which is still less than a tiny place like the uk with its current economic problems in the face of a massively inflated housing market, but still managing in the region of $1600 mil...

This wasnt about uk v's us either... I was jus using the uk as an example because i know the figures... And too be honest i was absolutely shocked to read somewhere as small and insignificant as us gave more than the worlds only super power... Something i thought was relevant to the discussion as i saw it.
If you wanna take that as anti american or a personal attack thats fine... But in no way was it intended like that

Robert, I may be a cunt, I may not be a nice person... But i do not make things up... If i wrote it... Then it was reported by a reputable source...

( as a long time member you know well enough i have been questioned on what i say many times... and never failed to back up what i had written as 'fact' or as 'reported' when i felt a need to do so)

If you wanna question its validity that is fine as well, afterall i never wrote these things i jus recanted what was reported

Its not an English thing...its a RACE THING. Its one thing to say 'French have hairy armpits....Italians have facial hair like their mother and Brits have bad teeth' its another to try to use physical attributes to make an argument about a class of people.
Does anyone get this?

Nick,
I don't believe someone can make so many pages based on one line. Something that could have been an offhand comment with no real intention. Perhaps it was only an observation. Perhaps it was said as strong as those guys were assulting my friends. Yet you think you have the key to my entire personality and beliefs.

Don't fvcking tell me who I am or what I mean. This coming from someone who boosts about kicking the shit out of people, boasts about throwing piss at people. You know other human beings.

Should have done that. Should have beaten those bastards within an inch of their life. That would be the right thing to do right? We just left and later I called them greesy italian fags to the girl they were feeling up to try and cheer her up. Sorry. I'm such a shit. Sorry I'm such a pollition to this world.

Anyone who knows me will know it differently. I have examples I can lay out but I don't feel like proving myself to you. I don't respect you at all and never have. Unfortunate if because of my post, some others have the wrong idea about me. But that's all it is, unforunate. To use Emma's line. 'Fvcked if I care'.

Andy, I have no response to you because you've been waiting on this. I'll let you have it.

I never said you did say those things, however many of your compatriots have. Not to mention a poster who is named after one of our most recent stoppers who decided to make attacks against Christianity and the death of the Pope. Sometimes I wonder what is really going on here.
Firstly... you directed at me when posting... but if indeed not , then i apologise.

Now i fail to see where the fact others are from the same country as myself has any relevance... I have things in common with all of them... but that doesnt mean i share any of those views, or they mine.

You cant put us all in a bag togeather jus cause we are of the same nationality...

Which is what this was all about in the first place... well what annoyed me anyway...

When you (or anyone) insult one of the other english people here in a nationalsitic way... then even though i may not even be involved in the convo or if i am on your side of the argument... you are still insulting me... because i am english....

That is not right or fair... and is why i have allways said these comments should be stopped... If you wanna insult someone... insult them not their nationality...

That is all i have ever asked for... In todays world is it really too much to ask to not be insulted because of your nationality, colour, religion, sexuality etc etc ??

What needs to be absolutely clear, however, is that every country suffers anti-sentiments from other nations. How badly you suffer it is directly related to the power of your nation. That doesn't mean, however, that the largest nation is the only nation affected by this phenomenon.
"All Nigerians are fraudsters!" So said an Englander to me last time I was in London!

Ahh, Marion Barry. I lived in the D.C. area during part of his reign too. Or, as we used to call him, "Mayor for 25 to life!" (instead of his own slogan of "Mayor for Life!"). :D

    Paul

I don't want to drag this on anymore since a) you acknowledged the comment was wrong even though you keep thinking both insults (teeth versus greasy hair and skin) are on the same level...in fact, given the context they are given in (one as friendly banter back and forth and the other on one's dislike of "Italians") its clear that if we play "Where's RACISM" the proverbial WALDO isn't hard to find.

That said, you should know better than to eat in Little Italy in NYC .. since when did you become a fvckin tourist??!! :cheesy:

Fliakis: Stop being a little sh*t.

Never even mentioned kicking the sh*t out of someone in fact the only posts I spoke about were a) avoided being kicked the sh*t out of and being scared of being kicked the sh*t out of.

I didn't label or figure you out...I merely highlighted that your comment was bigotry and racism in its simplest form: hate and anger turning to bigotry.

    1. Italians in your area are crass, loud and rude.
    2. You hate these type of Italians.
    3. These Italians have greasy hair and greasy skin thus, they are not as 'hot' as they think.

Once again, I love how you went on for pages about the jocks, the bullies and the airheads who kicked the sh*t out yet you are the 'enlightened' one.... :thumb:

Jog on son...may I suggest you grab a backpack and see the World a little.

Paul, I really do not question your statistics, and I did think that you were under the impression that $350 M was the total from all sources American. I did not go back to read what you had posted since I was never going to comment on the "Tsunami Releif" post to begin with, until Libero called folks out for not responding to you. Then I felt the need to respond to something that was stuck in my head about the private donations we, in Raleigh, raised.

That Libero is a tricky little prick like that. That's why I love him.

    Greg,

Back to the espresso question: you purchased a grinder? But usually the Faema, Saeco's whatever grind the beans as well... don't they?? or does it not cut it?

What do you think of the Nescafe machines .. its catching on in Switzerland, France and England (from what I have seen) ... I have had it. While there is more than enough 'crema' it does not have enough 'bite' to it..in my opinion. Also, what do you know about Solis? A friend in Rome got his hands on a few new ones and he is willing to let me have it for close to nothing.

Pado..remember the heat you gave me once because I was being a typical 'Italian' and sending a couple an espresso machine as a wedding gift. Well, they loved it and insist on telling all their 'guests' that it came directly from Italy.
However, they asked me recently "what type of coffee do we put in there?"

    Goddamn 'MangiaCakes'

P.S. I was hoping to watch the Sopranos while I am here...did the new season start yet??

OK, so I guess I was wrong about the espresso machine. I don't watch Sopranos because I don't have HBO, but if you are in the States why haven't you called?
