TBH that schedule is nothing like mine. I don't know how they teach those courses of course, there might be some writing involved. More than anything you develop a critical attitude and a way of organising your thoughts in a well structured discours over here. Which, IMHO, is important, but at the same time makes me want more. So I'd like to study something else as well.
Man, I'm not going to save the world. In fact, I actually promote climate change as that would make people such as myself much better off since more companies across the globe would need weather derivatives to hedge against weather extremes in a changing climate. It would make the weather more difficult to predict with no decent historical data, and thus we could see all sorts of different weather derivative products offered on markets because that is the only real solution to stop companies from losing money.
So I'm thinking keep driving your Hummers, keep producing harmful greenhouse gasses that deplete the constituents of ozone. The more radiance that penetrates the ozone layer and reaches the surface, the better.
It's just humorous how people say global warming is not possible when the science says it is possible. It is indeed possible as the less ozone we have in the stratosphere, the less radiation is emitted back to space. 99.999% of people who say the Global Warming potential is a farce don't know the slightest about radiative transfer. Probably most couldn't understand it anyway.

I know global warming is possible. As a history student I also know that people can't say certain things in certain eras. Today for example you can't say there is no such thing as global warming when you're living in Belgium. And that whilst there is no everyday experience which makes global warming blatantly obvious (though there is of course scientific proof).

The 400 level history courses probably involve all sorts of writing, and there probably are a couple courses completely focused on research reports.
It's quite the interesting topic, and I'm lucky I get exposed to all the possibilities instead of hearing about it on biased news sources or from rent-seeking politicians. Whenever I try to explain the facets of what we call Global Warming, people just respond by saying I'm watching too much Al Gore. But the fact is, I don't need to see that documentary and probably never will.

The problem with such a topic is that, if you want to have a serious opinion about it, you need to invest a lot of time in it. This means I for example would have to read a huge amount of scientific papers. On top of that I'm obviously not familiar with literature in this area.
I don't have that time as I chose not to study this. That means that I'm very dependant on other people when forming my own opinion. But, and this is where history majors are really good at, I know who I should believe. It's quite clear Al Gore is full of bullshit and has an own agenda, but at the same time it's also clear that there is such a thing as global warming.
The big problem, as always, lies with people who didn't study anything. Because of that they don't have the knowledge themselves whilst not knowing who to trust either.
