I just read a great review:

olorful introduction to grappa that's light on comparisons, June 22, 2004
This overview of grappa is nicely packaged -- many color photos of bottles, distilleries, and vineyards; quality paper and binding; built-in ribbon bookmark, etc. The bulk of this book consists of two- or three-page write-ups of distilleries or vintners and a few of their more interesting .....

The Man Who Rates Espresso: SFist Interviews The Shot's Greg

A few months ago, we stumbled across a really interesting coffee-related Web site -- , which (obviously) rates Bay Area cafes primarily according to the espresso they serve. The site's companion blog, The Shot, reveals more about the origins of the site, the methodology used to determine these ratings, and gives us insight to the man behind the reviews: Greg.

Greg is our kind of guy -- a San Francisco resident who loves the city and spends much of his free time documenting his takes on the local coffee scene. And, not surprisingly, he does it a whole lot better than we do. We asked Greg if he'd be up for an interview--we wanted to help spread the word on his impressive and invaluable Web sites. We think it should be interesting for our readers, even those who don't worship at the altar of the peaberry--Greg is a 15-year resident of the city that not only appreciates a good cup of espresso, but has an interesting, useful outlet for expressing it.

I'm not too fond of this fucked up weather anymore.

a) It's supposed to be cold, it's not. Just yesterday I was able to play football outside in a t-shirt. That's not normal.

b) What is up with these tropical storms? Last time I checked we didn't have a moesson-season down here.

c) It's a good thing it's not snowing though. I don't like snow :D.
We usually get around five of such storms during autumn but this is crazy. I took one step out of The Hague HS trainstation today and my umbrella was snapped like a twig and pulled out of my hands before I had time to react. I can only assume it's halfway to Copenhagen by now.

I want snow. And ice. I want the both the Scheldts to freeze over :toast:

For Andy:

European windstorm Kyrill is coming down hard on the North Sea region as Holland and Germany suffer most.

Holland is experiencing winds of up to 130km/h that have crippled the nation. Schiphol International Airport, Europe's 4th biggest, is suffering major delays. Heavy rainfall has caused large sections of the highway from Amsterdam to Utrecht to have disappeared into Lake Yssel and estuaries and the coastline is bracing itself for another twelve hours of enormous waves.

German authorities in the Northwestern part of the country have urged people to stay indoors. Throughout Holland and Germany, reports of flying debris, falling trees, collapsing buildings and regional flooding have been keeping emergency forces busy for most of the day while the centre of the storm has not even made landfall yet.

Ferries to the Frisian Islands have been forced to halt their services. The Dutch and German navies have been called in to assist the local population wherever they can but the governments warned the islands will mostly have to rely on themselves for the duration of the storm.

The Frisian coast on Thursday morning.

Kyrill is the second large storm to hit the region in the space of a week in what can only be described as abnormal climate conditions in a part of Europe where January is usually dominated by mild frost and clear blue skies.
