i was there for the bears game this week-end, i cant understand why no one's making an effort to make the place look better
People ARE making an effort, however everything goes to waste because of the Kilpatrick administration and the idiots on the Detroit City council. Despite most of them being supposed "Democrats," nobody, not even an Republican from this city, could run the town efficiently and restore the city to where it was a couple decades ago. The politicians were too busy dreaming of restoring Detroit with just the means of building casinos while watching as everything else went to hell, especially the public works department and other downtown business which stems from one thing... money. And since GM and Ford has also been driven into the dirt with more imbecilic officials, it's obvious why Detroit has become such a poor city.

I just came back from said place today, and I guess the good news is that some work is being done to restore the downtown sector of the city, with new restaurants and attractions being built around the greektown and Woodward sectors. But the rest of the city continues to deteriorate, and many of the citizens who have some power in Detroit just don't give a shit. Ask my uncle, he's a lawyer for the city and knows all too well about the inept people running the place.

But to be honest, the problems stem from the decline of the American automotive industry. Detroit is called the American Motor City for a reason, you know. Really fucking sad.

By the way, a late Merry Christmas to all.

I have been too busy dealing with relatives who do not have a proper internet connection installed despite probably having over a million dollars in the bank. People in Detroit need to stop living in the 20th century.

looks like Saddam is dead....
Horrible idea. Especially since his trial was such a scam.

Glad I live in the Netherlands

Constitution of the Netherlands Article 114
Capital punishment may not be imposed.
Apparently Libya ordered three days of national mourning following Saddam's death and all other Arab states pretty much refuse to comment on the matter, saying it's a "national, internal issue of Iraq"

Really makes you wish they all lived a little further away from Europe :D

Hey. I live in Berlin's Turkish quarter now: Kreuzberg.

It used to be the West's poor and alternative quarter, and seems to be in a big revival in the last months. Great place to live, full of artists, music and art everywhere, and of course, cheap Kebab every 50m.

:pint:

I lived in an Arab quarter in The Hague for three years, the 7/11 across the street was robbed an odd 11 times, once the owner was stabbed.

Oh and in November 2003 I think it was, might have been 2004, the army pulled in to arrest a set of terrorists now known as the Hofstadgroep (feel free to put that through Wikipedia) who are now ranked in the top 5 on the EU's list of 'most dangerous terror organisations' currently threatening the lives of civilians in the Union.

It was great fun though but outsiders seemed to easily forget 98% of people living there were just regular, cool people.

I meant not in the kind the Dutch used to brag about.
Our politicians used to brag about. The rest of us was wondering what the hell they were talking about.

You know, for someone who hates the West so much, you seem to have adopted an awful lot of our lifestyles. You even support a European football club as if it were your own.

EDIT: Never mind the Arabs, ETA are back and bombed a Madrid airport...

Similar to the hypocricy of many who boycott American products yet they smoke Marlboros, they use Microsoft and listen to 50 cent.
