You could also say it is another case of America saying 'Fuck you' to the rest of the world... Another case of take, take, take and give nothing back...
I'm usually a pretty cynical guy, but this time I'm not as much as I could be (must be losing my edge). While I do think there's a bit of economic nationalism at stake here, I have to side with you, Paul, in being skeptical about the motives behind it. It's really about who is pulling the biggest political influence strings here.

I've seen what can happen in my own state over Indian Reservation gambling and the Las Vegas lobby. When it comes to national economics, they've been limp-wristed here about enforcing corporations that have located their taxable home in Bermuda. But if a local gambling lobbyist detects an external threat to their private cash flow, you bet Congress will step into action faster than you can read "bwin" off of Gilardino's jersey. Faster than Rep. Mark Foley can IM "Do I make you a little horny?"

A voluntary prayer bill? Isn't it voluntary to pray already?
The difference is that now it will be mandatorily voluntary.

@ Paul: Because not every team must have churn out 1-0 wins .. because despite popular belief Serie A does not have to be defensive and boast only defensive midfielders and most of all because it reminds me of an era when names like Rijkaard, MVB, Carletto, Albertini, Evani and Guillit put the Italian teams on the world wide football map.

@ Seven: to quote Ali " is that all you got"...if you look up Gandhi and murderer you will also find dirt...doesn't make it true..and that is a pitiful attempt to make up your "Berlusconi censored a lot" comment.

    back later..busy

no opinion either way when it comes to internet gambling...cant believe some ppl are foolish enough to think they can actually win (especially the roulette game)

I know of someone who stole his dads credit card to play internet poker, and racked up a $26,000 bill.. but it could happen in a regular casino as well

We have Indian run casino's around here, and casino's run by the Ontario government in Niagara Falls, Canada

I cannot believe how much nicer Niagara Falls Ontario is since the Casino's opened....they are using casino profits to develop that city, and it really shows !!

You may have heard of the tax against people who can't do math (the lottery). But the roulette one is just a tax on idiocy.

That's Canada, though. You can't get into a strip club in Windsor without a tie on. ;)

Mayor Kilpatrick and those other imbeciles on the Detroit City Council should take notice. No matter how many casinos they build the place still looks like an absolute hell on earth.

Andy, for college admissions did you go through the whole SatII process? If so, would you mind me asking you a few questions?
Way back when, when I applied for college admissions, we had to go through the whole Sputnik process. What a bear.

Actually, more like, "What a dog."

I'm ignorant on the issue but tell me how the 'The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act' will not deter some degenerate gamblers from wasting away their paycheck in online casino's...yes, the degenerate may play it at the tracks or he may just take a few gulps of his king can pass out and the next day be thankful his money was not wasted just a few clicks away from him.
I was under the impression most online casino's were incorporated in places like Gibraltor and those safe haven islands....will the bill not drastically cut down the number of sites a degenerate can RUIN himself in??

Yeah, but that's like outlawing tobacco so that people won't get cancer. You don't have to gamble.

We separate church from state at all levels or at least we are supposed to. There is no school sanctioned prayer, if you want to pray to yourself thats fine. The bill is for having a prayer at the beginning of the day and making it optional like the Pledge of Allegiance, which really isn't optional. You don't have to say but if you don't you usually get ridiculed by classmates, that said the same thing would eventually happen with prayer. And since the Constitution forbids the combination of curch and state it is not likely to get through the introductory stage.

If such a load of bullshit ever took place where I live I would be the first to get up in the morning and say "Dear divinity, Fuck You" :disagree:
