I don't think It has anything to do with achieving. The fact is that Zidane is a greater thug than Matrix. Very few players out there can achieve what Zidane has achieved...(He's a dirty player but one of the greatest players).
What the hell are you talking about? How is Zidane a 'dirty player'? Yes, he's stupidly retaliated, 12 times if you want to put it that way. In 614 official matches (wikipedia), over the span of 18 years. Meanwhile when he's not being sent off (all those other matches), he's not pulling shirts, he's not tackling at knee height, he's not shoving and he's not kicking, anymore than the average player.

What, you've never seen DP get booked? He had a clumsy tackle just last week in the Napoli match, got booked for it. Is he a dirty player too now?

When a player gets "12" red cards in his career, then yes he's a thug. I know he's aggressive and cant control himself, but doesn't this turn him into dirty player sometimes?

When Totti did spit in Euro 2004, I think he was called more than a dirty player. Then what do you call someone, who headbutts and has been sent off 12times in his career? are you going just to call him aggressive player?

Unfortunately pulling shirts and tackling, can't be seen alot by Attacking Midfielders(Zidane, Totti, Del Piero etc) It's not their Job but defenders Jobs.

Of coarse I've seen Dp getting booked, but I've also watched Dp getting Insulted and slapped by Cufre, yet he replied him in a Classy way. I'm pretty sure Sonia has been insulted thousands of times, yet he knows how to keep his calm.

One thing we can't argue about, is that Zidane is a history and one of the best ever football produced.

Totti was labeled dirty not for the one incident, but based on a long record of aggressive behavior. Hell, even in this WC he came close to expulsion for his 'combative' style (I think it was in the US match).

That's not the point. DP retaliates too, just not to the same degree. I've often seen him make tackles that could not be misinterpreted as clean, bad temper, complaining about decisions etc. Zidane, when he retaliates, can be a lot more violent. That's the difference. It's not the case that DP is the embodiment of integrity while Zidane uses every trick in the book to bend the rules.

Look, Zidane's record of 12 expulsions is an ugly one, and for all the bookings and incidents over the years, condemning him for it is good and fair. Not only that, the jokes over the head butting were funny too. But to put him in the same bracket as _Materazzi_, no in fact saying that he's more dirty, is just the most ridiculous thing ever. Yes, Matrix may not have collected as many red cards, but that's because he's a sly mofo, he's expert at getting away with stuff. Zidane, meanwhile, prone to losing is head, does not in any way intimidate or provoke opponents. How you can equate those two is insane.

Zidane had 12.
Del Piero has 2. So by this logic, he is one expulsion away from being as bad as Materazzi.

spot on 100%, putting zidane in the same category as materazii is just ridicolous. He is just an ill temperd player and he gets kicked every game and ofcourse the verbal abuse. Not every player would just sit there and do nothing.

He was wrong for retailating, and he acknowledged that but Materazzi is no saint either.

Materazzi is one of the dirtiest players this game has ever seen, mybe he has 3 cards in his career or something but just ask the likes of sorin(who got a bloody head from him), Sheva and the list goes on on of players he abused. And he is getting praised ? i dont get it

Right, but aside from being on the receiving end of all those bookings, he actually achieved something else too. Materazzi well.... didn't.

And "one of the dirtiest players out there" is a gruesome exaggeration. Yes, he was sent off all those times, that doesn't mean his style of play was dirty and underhanded. He was sent off over losing his temper, not over continuously sabotaging and inciting others.
Materazzi scored in a WC final and took the responsibility of taking a penalty.

You can't really achieve that much more as a football player.

Oh, poor.
Without a doubt the sorriest example of ghost riding I have ever seen. You want ghost riding Sebi? OK, 1984, Nick Savage hops out of the driver seat of his Cutlass convertible, heading East on Springfield Ave at 5 MPH. Nick turns around and walks West to the nearby 7-Eleven while his two passengers shit themselves as the car careens down the road with no driver.

@ Andy - OK Mr. Weatherman, I was just wondering . . . Tropical Storm Ernesto paid me a little visit here in Shitsville on Thursday-Friday. It was nice, ended the drought. So, here it is Wednesday and I'm wondering why it is still raining?

Not complaining, just wondering.

materazzi just won us a WC. it hurts me to say it, but pirlo's precision was only 50% of the job. he played cleaner than ever, and was even booked unjustly(maybe the referee did it spontaneously - "materazzi is on the ground, probably someone's been butchered").
this doesn't make him anymore of a douche bag but i probably do agree with zidane being the fouler character. Materazzi may threaten to break legs, but Zidane's actions, which we have seen him repeat time and time again, could have had equally serious and maybe even worse consequences, had the blow centred materazzi's heart or lungs more strongly.
Furthermore, it is exactly because Zidane has constructed a fame for himself which he tries to uphold, of him being a grand player, why he should not resort to such actions, in front of millions of football fans, amongst which a large percentage are children. And he's dumb too because they could have won the bloody thing.
As if it's the first time he's ever been insulted ina football match. poor, innocent zidane, he's only been playing for over a decade, and he was so shocked from materazzi's comeback to his offer of his shirt, that he decided to headbutt him... and we give this player the MVP trophy?
