That's taking it too far, mate. Ronaldo's attitude has been worse than it was today, but his behaviour was still appalling. Diving is nothing new nowadays, but even disregarding that: today was the first time I saw a player ask the referee to card one of his colleagues from his club. It's quite disgusting.

If anything, I find it odd that Ronaldo's attitude is pointed out here when it was Rooney who was doing the stomping and shoving.

Rooney's foul was horrible, a definite red. But Ronaldo wasn't involved in the incident itself and if it's the referee who makes the final decision anyway, why run over there when the referee was barely 1 meter from the incident when FIFA regulations already state players are not to ask for cards?

Then there's the little matter of just generally shutting up when you're playing a bad game yourself and have to resort to diving to get anything done. If you insist on diving, fine, it's all part of the game. But then don't go begging for cards if someone else is on the wrong too.

But complain all you want, make all the dives you want, it was clear that the officiating was generally showing major restraint and wasn't going to fall for the b.s. that has happened in prior WC matches. That was reflected in the Brazil-France match as well: the refs must have been coached to let the players play more, which I think is a good thing.

And yes, I hate dives. Portugal is guilty of many of them, so it was good in this match not to see them generally rewarded much at all. I hope this is a signal for the rest of the tournament...

I doubt it, it's part of their footballing culture. Not that I think it's a lower form, or inferior, or disgusting. It's just as much part of the game as the Italian defensive tactics (barely "Italian" anymore nowadays) or whatever else you can think of. They shouldn't change either: this is who they are, how they play. Let's maintain some diversity, because the moment countries start to abandon their traditional footballing ways, it all goes to hell and becomes boring: ie Brazil and Holland.

Irrelevent. I hope France and the best player since Maradona tears Portugal a new asshole. Why? Because they're absolute crap.

Their performances in the group stage were rubbish, their performance against Holland was rubbish while the game was destroyed by the referee, and today they were garbage while England was the better side. And this is coming from someone who absolutely abhors England and especially that cunt of a player Wayne Rooney, the savior of anybody but England.
