If they actually hung themselves up, they didn't choke but broke their neck. If they did choke, there was no need to hang themselves up.

Not necessarily. The neck breaks when the person has a rope around the neck and the support under their feet suddenly disappears and they *fall*. If you gently step off a small stool, the neck doesn't break and you choke.

I only wish more prisoners would kill themselves. It would save a lot of taxpayers money and free up the place for the countless rapists, murderers etc to rot away, as opposed to getting parole after 5 years.. sick.

Why would anyone kill himself in that fashion though? Seems to me that if you are going to kill yourself and you are going to hang yourself up you want to take the short way. And to be honest I think it could take more than two minutes for a grown man to choke as well. Nevertheless, I don't doubt that they really did kill themselves. Guantanamo is a disgrace, but surely they didn't go that far.

What a good description:oops:

Although I think neither ropes nor stools are available for people in cells...

Taxpayers have nothing to do with this disgraceful place...

You can't tell me that treating 450 people like animals will be any good for American people...

It's only a temporary cure for some US leaders who are looking for compensating for their failure in both Afghanistan and Iraq...

A grown man can easily choke within two minutes. The thing is that if you choke and you are found in under 2 minutes, there's a good chance you can be resuscitated and brought back. If you break your neck, that's not the case. Not that I assume the guards of Guantanamo would be eager to resuscitate. They probably consider it to be gay, considering there would be some lip contact and all that.

And that's what I'm saying:

They didn't commit it. Somebody has taken their souls instead...
Did the report say they hanged themselves? Perhaps they asked a cellmate to choke them with a pillow? Nothing is inconceivable in a place like Guantanamo I guess...

A very valid point...

Erik, it was decribed as suicide, so yes, they killed themselves. I also believe they were the only ones in the cell. Smothering each other with pillows isn't an option therefore.

Right well you don't need much to kill yourself. A shard from the toilet bowl to cut your wrists, some cloth to choke yourself, a sheet to hang yourself, silverwear to stab yourself, stacking up on medicin to poison yourself... There are ways.

They're not supposed to have those things. And I'm sure the guards would have noticed the unauthorised stuff when they were beating the crap out of them.

Don't underestimate a desperate man. Desperate people are capable of anything. First rule of hijacking: avoid desperation in your victims. Let them keep their dignity (allow them to visit the bathroom for example). Desperation will lead to unexpected chaos.

True. Anyway, I believe it was suicide. Though in this case suicide that is instigated in such fashion one could still call it murder.

What wonders me though is the lack of pressure on the US. Sure, we all react disgusted, I think even most American citizens do, but it Guantanomo still exists.

I guess we all chat away about moral and ethics, but in the end are just pragmatists.
