What wonders me though is the lack of pressure on the US. Sure, we all react disgusted, I think even most American citizens do, but it Guantanomo still exists.

I guess we all chat away about moral and ethics, but in the end are just pragmatists.
They have our governments in their pockets. Remember the CIA flights? There's no way our governments didn't know...

As for the population: there's only so many things you can march through your capital city about...

Sure they have, but Abu Ghraib...Guantanamo...you can only go so far...

Perhaps we, the audience, haven't shown enough disgust either.

And then what? You want to go and poke fucking Goliath with a broom stick? Best of luck

The audience mumbles something at the TV, generally agree it's terrible, and then zap away to Wheel of Fortune. That's just the way it works. Overkill. A picture of four year old African children with nothing but skin over bones does little anymore, we've seen it, it doesn't change.

It's childish to question guantanamo?
It's childish to question the Patriot Act?
It's childish to criticise America for invading Iraq without authorisation?

Now now, that's just too easy.

"If you criticise the US you're either a moron or a terrorist.'
You're right none of the above is actually childish, but to constantly bash our country and its people even though we ask you not to is childish and not to mention disrespectful.

I tried to before :lazy:

Yes, you're right and it's a shame, but it seems as if America are going further and further and at some point people will snap.

I look at America and think to myself that at this point in time it's either America or perhaps China or Russia. This might just be as good as it gets.

Either that or the idiot in the white house will finally be replaced by someone a little smarter who isn't in the pocket of corporate America. If you guys would pay attention to American politics, you might realize that the upcoming elections could bring about a drastic change in Congress which could translate into a change in policy.

The next president will be bound by hand and feet by the consequences of the eight years preceding him. It could well be very disillusioning, assuming the right candidate manages to win the elections.

@ Enron- big changes will come in the next round of elections. The Republicans are in serious trouble thanks to the Bush Man. You can tell they are feeling the pressure when out of nowhere they start pushing shit that has zero importance - like good old Republican staples, The Gay Marriage Ban, The Flag Burning Ban, The Prayer in School Mandate. All the stale old leftover bullshit that isn't going to end the war in Iraq or put the jobless back to work.

The President is but one. There are 100 Senators and 500 Million or so in the House of Representatives.

I appreciate the system where a party after winning an election can replace a lot of civil servants with members of their own party (I forget the official English term). But even with full support in various layers, it doesn't change the fact that the aftermath of the actions of 8 years of Republic reign under George W Bush will drag on and strongly influence at least the first term of the next administration. I think it's quite likely the next administration won't be in power for longer than four years.

Andy .. you are an idiot if you think that dissing the US national team equates to dissing the nation...the sad state of soccer in our country coupled with the overblown media reports on the US team and FIFA rankings shines at the World Cup....No one gives two sh*ts about the game and the ones that do claim that home grown players must grow in the MLS and not in Europe..the result is that we have Landon Donovan's who are legends at home and third rate subs at best when they face the rest of the world...

P.S. Grow the fvck up .. stop crying ANTI-AMERICAN because someone criticized the team....

By your rationale I can saw you don't give a sh*t about your nation because you don't care about their water polo team

@ Nick, my main problem with the USA team is that I believe they are a good team, but they talk like they are a great team. This is a team that has accomplished nothing. Yes, 2002 was great, but they didn't win anything. Then to demand respect? Boloney. You get respect by the way you play and conduct yourself on the field, at the World Cup. What you did in 2002 means nothing. What you did in qualifiers means nothing. What you did at the Gold Cup or Coppa America means nothing. This is the World Cup and that is all that matters.

Croatia's 3rd place finish in 1998 could not even get them a seat on the bus in 2002. USA needs to learn that hard lesson.

So Poland are out the world cup due to a very debatable offside call in the game against Ecuador and a very debatable red card against Germany. It could have been a yellow to Ballack though. After all one would suspect that someone who kicks an opponent will be punished. It's not like the Polish guy could help it that Ballack injured himself while trying to injure an opponent. Meanwhile Ukraine's game was also obviously fixed.

Yes, this is a grand World Cup, thank you very much Sepp

So next up for Germany is Sweden (presumably), which means the Germans are as good as in the Quarter Finals already.

Meanwhile we, their fiercest rivals, have barely begun finding our way out of the toughest group the World Cup has ever seen.

It's a good thing I don't appreciate conspiracy theories or I'd be coming for you, Germans :D

Relax, after today's games I'm sure it's a fixed WC, but that's a good thing for you. Holland are known for attractive football and have a big fan base. Unlike I would suspect they're not the team you love to hate. That team is Italy. I suspect Italy will get screwed all over again, with Spain getting some redemption for their unlucky run in 2002.
