I don't understand everyone's celebrating. I'm happy we won, I'm happy Del Piero scored, but I'm nowhere near certain we'll get to keep this scudetto. Today's simply not a day for happiness IMO.

Del Piero hails hard-working Juve
Sunday 14 May, 2006
Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has praised his teammates for “earning this Scudetto with hard graft on the pitch.”

“This is a special day for so many reasons. We are extremely happy with this Scudetto and the whole season, as my teammates and I sweated our hearts out on the field in every game, whether it was a win or a defeat,” said the Bianconeri legend.

The celebrations for the 29th title have been overshadowed by an investigation into alleged match-fixing and collusion with referees, which has seen the entire Juventus Board of Directors – including director general Luciano Moggi – resign.

“It’s inevitable that we cannot ignore what is happening. We’re close to the people who’ve worked with us for many years and hope the matter can reach a positive resolution, but I don’t want to get into this debate.”

Juventus were top of the table from start to finish and notched up a record-breaking 91 points, so Del Piero insists they have reason to be proud.

“At the end of the day, the most wonderful thing about this sport is being there on the field and this season we proved our worth where it counts in the cleanest possible way. We feel very proud of this Scudetto.”

Nonetheless, there is talk of a worst case scenario in which Juventus would be relegated if the investigation reaches a conclusion that there were irregularities. Would Del Piero stay in Turin even if it meant playing Serie B football?

“My bond with Juventus is very strong and I have a love for this club that goes beyond many other considerations. It’s no coincidence I stayed this year even after some difficult moments.”

Those disappointments were caused by Coach Fabio Capello, who granted the captain just 17 Serie A starts and 16 substitute appearances, even though he managed to score 12 goals.

“Capello has won two Scudetto titles with us. Our relationship has been exaggerated in the Press, as the row we supposedly had this week didn’t happen.”

it feels absolutely surreal, some are celebrating the 29th whereas some are waiting for it to be stripped. It is incredible, this one will remain firmly in my mind for years to come.
No one is waiting for it to be stripped FFS. All I'm saying is that it's premature to celebrate this one as it's unclear at the moment whether or not we'll get to keep him. Auguri to the squad for putting Reggina at the side at times like these though.

Well, that's just low isn't it? If Milan were involved in a scandal like this and they had just won the scudetto I wouldn't judge them as fast as some people are judging Juventus now.

if it was them it would have been hushed up as they obviously play more beautiful football than us or so they say. there are a lot of people ready to punish us at the first sight of a discrepancy...no one likes the winners and we are certainly proved to be winners down the years

I think you have to celebrate that the squad accomplished something that no one else can lay claim to this season, regardless of the outcome of the investigations.

My enthusiasm for any championship this season has certainly been tempered significantly by all the events of the past week or so. But if I just look at the play on the pitch and compare it with other squads, this season's Scudetto is one Juve deserves. And for just that much, I will most definitely celebrate.

Look, Juventus are five times the team Reggina is. That they were going to win was a given fact. The play on the field? Well, how are you going to judge that if it's possible they fixed games? Let's be fair, we didn't look all that brilliant. Milan looked a far better team at times. I'm sceptical about the whole case and things such as player enthusiasm and our play are non-arguments at the time.

But by the same token, a lot of anti-Juve whiners misused this as an opportunity/attempt to distract the team in the heat of a Scudetto race. And the team didn't crumble.

But this match aside, Juve generally dominated the campionato this season. And while there was cause to point out a few referee examples of questionable merit -- as seemingly happens every season (and as someone on goal.com posted, wasn't exactly exceptional by any means this year) -- in the end I don't think it's even a signficant factor in the outcome one way or the other. For at least what the players could achieve themselves, this squad should rightfully lay claim to the Scudetto.

Not to mention that no accusations I've heard to date concerned matches this season...
