You brought me back down to earth on the MLS topic? When was this? I don't think I even left "earth" with that discussion. :howler:

I know our league has a way to go.

Waste of space? Surely you do not have a keen sense of picking out good keepers. Robinson is no better than David James either.
Yeah ok.

Look at his games for England, he has been great. Keep in mind the teams and leagues these damn keepers are playing in. Theres only so much someone can do with spurs. Keller on the other hand can shine in mickey land. It cant be compared.

You just honestly have let your EPL dislike go to your head. Go talk with chxta and get it out of your system.

Right, and I'm sure you could tell us who our number one keeper is at the moment.
Of course not. Noone cares about USA soccer team.

We only get MLS late at night. But even then after being out and getting pissed I watch the NBA over MLS every time, atleast its exciting. :D

Blandie, in defense of the MLS, put this in a different perspective.

If England had decided to start up a professional basketball league consisting mainly of home grown product and the occasional foreign past-his-prime player looking to cash in on one last payday, how do you think that league would fare in 10 years time?

Would you be comparing it to the NBA, or even the Italian or Spanish leagues for that matter?

And, do you think that if an international team of only English born players were to compete in world tournaments and be ranked, do you think that they would do nearly as well as the US has done in football in the last 10 years?

and this isn't really an apples-oranges type of comparison when you keep in mind that out of the 4 major sports in the US, soccer(football) is 5th.

Being english myself, i dont see how you intend to offend me by that.

But, Germany have a far better goalkeeper coming up. There is a young man who plays at VFB Stuttgart. He went on the longest run of a goalkeeper not conceding in bundesliga history. Timo Hildelbrand is his name.

Of course I am keeping in mind the leagues these keepers have played in. Keller was great in 2003 for Tottenham, while Freidel won the Keeper of the Year award a couple years back. Freidel is still a top keeper, and he would be much better if he did not have to play behind one of the worst backlines in the EPL. Like I said before Sven would love to have a keeper like Freidel because he is just as good if not better than anything England has at the moment. Robinson has not really impressed me.

Keller has fallen off a bit, so he moved to the Bundesliga. He is still very good for the US NT though.

Im not the one comparing it. I simply dont. Andy is the one who compares.

The 10 year thing is garbage. Didnt George Best played in a competitve american football league in 76 for christs sakes. I dont care if it wasnt professional, im sure that had as much to do with support than talent.

Thats like saying English football started with the Premiership. Please dont keep using this 10 year statement. Its such a load of shit.

What am I comparing now? All I said is that the MLS has a long way to go.
You compared what Adu has done to what Rooney has done. You also *****ed on about the 10 year thing last time but I let it go because I couldnt be bothered bringing it up.

Which you now dont answer.

I compared Rooney to Adu because they are both overrated in their own precious ways. You also have no clue about American soccer because the first soccer league here in the US was nothing like MLS at present time, certainly not taking the title of a "Proffessional soccer league for American players." Again you are comparing different times and totally different situations.

So yeah. Your asking me if England had started a professional league ten years ago, but had been playing the sport competitively for atleast 30 years and had been playing it atleast at some level since god knows when, could we produce a league like americas MLS?

Im sure we could take a pretty good shot at it and England is nothing in size comparison. If averages plays itself out America will always be able to produce a competitive league in any sport for the rest of its existence.

No, what I'm saying is that England, Italy, France, Spain, Brazil, and practically every other country in the world have the good fortune of their best athletes playing football, and its obvious by the product that they place on the pitch.

The US, on the other hand, does not have that luxury, and that being said, US Soccer has come a long way in the last decade.

Which brings me to another point that I don't think has been discussed.

Knowing what we know about the level of athelte that is playing football around the world and those who are playing in the US, what woould happen if the US became a perennial contender for the World Cup, or God willing, they actually win one?

How pissed off would the rest of the world be?

Im not comparing them for christs sakes. Im making it clear how you didnt start 10 years ago. The progress made in 10 years has been nothing significant at all. Of course that sort of progress will be achieved when millions are pumped into it and its actually taken seriously, that dosent mean it will keep progressing at that speed.

About as pissed off as I was when Greece won the Euro. In other words I couldnt care less. And even with that, the MLS will never be able to compete with European soccer.

Back then we did not have the Project 40 system and Regional Olympic development teams that help find talent for the MLS. Also, the league of today is not all filled with players from other countries.
