I agree with you on this. However, what would have happened to Lithuania if 6 of their best players decided not to play? Would they have come close? Would Argentina? Very unlikely. that's why I don't consider this team a failure, to be honest. And I also don't buy into that "they didn't care" crap either. could there have possibly been any more pressure on these guys to win the gold?

The first dream team had everything you could want. Size (Ewing, Robinson), Speed (Jordan, Drexler) Shooting (Bird, Stockton) rebounding (Barkley, Malone) Passing (Magic) that team had it all. No other team even comes close in comparison. But the other thing to understand, is that those players were brought up in a different time, when fundamentals were still important in the NBA game, which leads me to my very unpopular but also very accurate conclusion regarding the NBA and its declinging skill.

Michael Jordan single handedly ruined the NBA game. And he didn't even mean to.

I still think the current USA team had by far the most individual quality and depth in these games.

ESPN had an interesting article about the dislike of the team among Americans being racially motivated. I dont know if that was the case, but interesting nonetheless.

they're jealous of the money, not the color of their skin.

trust me, if there was a worldwide professional swimming league, Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe would tell their respective countries to go to hell, there's no way they would go to the olympics.

Individual quality? Yeah, but so did the Lakers last year, and what did that get them.

Andy, baseball is great, and its a far more international sport than you would believe. Then again, we are at least a full generation apart in terms of age, so that's cool. But, I love baseball, its in my blood, its what I played when I was younger up until I was 14, and I'll always love it. I've played 4 organized sports through youth, high school, and college, and I still say that the hardest thing I've ever had to do was face a left handed pitcher who was hitting 93mph on the gun with a split-fingered fastball.
I played Baseball up until age 14 as well, making the worthless All Star team every year. It was a waste of time. Its by far the most boring sport to play and watch. Back in 94 or something when they went on strike, my dad got me tickets for an O's game for my birthday, right by the dugouts. Then those idiots went on strike, and we never got a refund. That was garbage, and frankly I don't care if MLB goes to hell, actually I hope they all do. I hate the sport, and I hate the players.

Yeah its coming for you Fabi. I suspect it will make landfall just north of Miami, with the stronger winds on the south side of the storm. Meaning, that its gonna be hell for the area. Forget Hurricane Andrew. :D
I escaped just in time :D but damn, it was hard to get out of the USA!
Yeah, I think Andrew will be forgotten after this one, we'll see tomorrow when it actually reaches Florida

Oh, and for the record, a USA team with Shaq, Kobe, T-Mac, Kidd, Garnett, and Vince Carter on it as well as Iverson, Duncan, and Lebron, would have wiped the floor with the rest of the world. Sorry if I sound cocky, but its the truth. However, for whatever reasons, be it legal (Kobe), injury (Kidd), or just being dumbasses, (the rest), it didn't happen.
noone doubts that. they are the best basketball athletes. lithuania on the other hand didnt have their best players as well. ilgauskas and sabonis. with front line like that TIMOTHY duncan wouldve looked like a baby.

just one thing - population: 3.6 million

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo, when you coming to Boston?

I've got a whole bunch of men lined up to meet you.

I showed them the picture of you passed out on the lawn, and my friends were like, "Which one is she? is she the hot one standing up?", and I'm like "No, she's the one that's passed out after a drunken stupor", and they were like "Oh, Cool"

he'll be 40 on december. but yet he was votem mvp in this years euroleague. he plays like a 40 yr old with wooden knees but with touch of basketball genius. serge, he is easily one of all time top 10 most talented players,.

Its a shame he didn't come to the NBA earlier than 33, he could have been very special.

Top 10 all time though?

I don't know about that.

Jordan
Magic
Bird
Kareem
wilt
Bill Russell
Oscar Robertson
Dr. J
Isiah Thomas
Olajuwon

And I'm forgetting at least 20 others

sergio, when you rupture your achiles tendon twice in your early 20s its affects your game doesnt it? moreover, sabas came to nba when he was around 32. with wooden knees already. besides, he not american, he didnt hae the facilities your players have. most of americans didnt even heard of him before he came to the US. of course, my statement is highly debatable and biased, but you cant deny his talent. he's without any doubt the the best european of all time. now it cant be that only americans can be better than him. if he played in bill russel and chamberlain era who knows what couldve happen? so imo its quite fair to place him in all time top 10.

Fli, of course it affects your game. No one is disputing that. However, Jordan suffered a major injury in just his 2nd year in the league, I can't remember if he shattered his foot or if he blew out his achilles as well, and well, he turned out OK. If you're looking at pure skills and an overall game, I would still find it hard to displace anyone else on that list in Sabonis' favor.

You want to talk about quite possibly the most talented overall big man the game hs ever seen, just on talent level alone, you have to look at Bill Walton.

im not giving him any favors just because of those injuries. he didnt turn out quite ok, one can say. but hes still rocking europe big time being 40 years of age.

that walton guy, he played for blazers and won the championship with some serious injury didnt he? a white guy with a beard.
