Nick, this is why you are so angry with Sheva.

Nobody has ever said, "I want to leave Milan because some of my prostitutes prefer London". You just cannot relate at this point in time.

Man, Cote d'Ivoire is going to run a train on that Holland defense.
As I posted in Vinman's picks thread a while back, Cote d'Ivoire is still my choice for the surprise team of the WC. Holland defense or not...

To think I almost bought a Ukraine jersey just a month ago ...
Honest question here, Nick. I've noticed what, from my perspective, seems like a tendency for Italians to label players by their international identities far more than footie followers in other countries. The foreign flags in the stands of clubs for one, representing the nationalities of the fans' favorite club players. But also things like Italian calcio announcers frequently calling players by their nationality -- e.g., I often hear "il ucranio" uttered more than I would hear "Sheva" (length of name aside, this is very true with other examples as well).

Would you agree with that?

FIFA strikes again:

Ten days before their match against Brazil, Croatia has a problem. FIFA has disapproved of their new home jersey. The reason: it has thirty percent too much white in it.

The front of the classic red-white shirt is fine, but there's too much white on the back, according to FIFA.

FIFA has suggested the Croatians add more red to the back of their shirts
No comment, really

Sepp Blatter is, afterall, the man who urged women's football teams to wear bikini bottoms instead of shorts.
:agree:

I think Croatia should change their shirts to something much longer -- with giant red lip marks on the shirttails that cover their players asses.

Aye. There's a definite sitar-like quality to it... and here I was thinking it was a Brazilian. ;)

btw, does your wife listen to "Fado"?
Some. The occasional Amália Rodrigues and some of her modern contemporaries. I once saw Mariza perform live here ... that was a really good show.

But Fado for me is a little like reggae: it's really good for a few songs, but after that it makes me stupid (sorry, Jack ;) ).

The classic contrast between the Portuguese and the Brazilians is evident in their national music. The Portuguese are dark, forlorn, and all dramatic, and the Brazilians want to party with their clothes off. My wife says she wishes she grew up in a Brazilian family instead. :p
