David Di Tommaso has passed away in his sleep during the night from Monday to Tuesday. The French FC Utrecht defender's life was taken away from him when his heart stopped in his sleep. He was only 26 years old and leaves behind his wife and his baby son.

Di Tommaso played the entire game against Ajax last Sunday when Utrecht beat the Amsterdammers 1-0. With a 7 on average in all major newspapers; he was considered the best player on the pitch for the Utrecht side.

Di Tommaso came to Utrecht from French club Sedan in the summer of 2004. He immediately established himself as an important player; starting in almost every match since then. He was awared the price of "Player of the year" by the Utrecht fans last season.

Before he came to Utrecht, the Frenchman played seven years in his own country, staying at AS Monaco for three seasons until he moved to Sedan during the 2000/01 season.

Unknown at this point I think. All they've established is that his heart stopped in his sleep. He didn't have a history of heart problems, which really would've been detected by the medical systems in Dutch football (who are very thorough)
