The Azzurri midfield was mostly crap for the first half of the Holland friendly, IMO. But then they were playing a 4-3-3 trident.

What's formation is Lippi using in the Cote D'Voire match?
Well right now he is fielding this after a few substitutions:

Amelia

Oddo - Barzagli - Materworthless - Zambrotta

Diana - Barone - Gattuso - Camoranesi

Iaquinta - Toni

And I think Lippi started with this:

Abbiati

Zaccardo - Barzagli - Materazzi - Grosso

Barone - Pirlo - De Rossi

Iaquinta - Gilardino - De Piero

Diana just scored another on a half-volley however the keeper stopped the ball partially before it was noticably across the line...I think it was over.

Full Time 1-1.

If that was Toni and not Iaquinta who recieved the turn and quick through ball from Alex the Azzurri would probably be one more up. Del Piero seems to be playing well again and that's good news for his quest to be included on the bus to Germany. At least he's not hogging the ball like that disgusting Romanista..
Indeed. Ale seems to be in good moral and shape. Too bad he isn't having alot of playing recently. I think he'll be riding the plane to Germany hopefully. I also hope he'll have some playing time in the Olympico.

At the moment, Del Piero is not having any favours done by the rich vein of form other strikers are having. Lets hope he has a good season and hopefully Lippi's familiarity with him will push him to bring him along.

I agree. That said that he has done pretty good so far with the Azzurri he must also keep on Focusin and doing good at Juve. This way Lippi will have no other choice but to choose him.

I hope so. Though to be honest, its unlikely he will make an amazing impact- Gilardino + Toni + Totti are superior players, and are more likely to start. You never know though- one bad match from Totti which makes Italy look bad (quite common nowdays) or an injury and Del Piero should get his chance to shine.

Thats right. Gila and Totti are superior players, Not sure about Toni yet(Tho he's having a Fantastic Season so Far). However Del Piero may not start Italy's matches in Germany But I'm sure he'll be coming off the bench and performe good(Mexico), and maybe then this can get him a starting place.

Tho, I would love and I don't know why Can't Dp-Totti play together.

The only logical explanation I can find which Lippi might think is that they would get in each others way, or Totti works best when he is the only guy supporting the striker(s). I think a partnership between Totti and Del Piero might be potentially letha in attackl- but the lack of a consistent goal scorer such Toni or Gila is the problem, as Totti's strengths lie more in creating then natrual scoring instict, as does Del Piero to a lesser extent. However:

-------Toni/Gila----DP----
---------------Totti-------
---------------------------Camo
-------Pirlo-----Gattuso---

Perhaps something like that could work. It depends on where you want to play Totti really, thinking about it.

Thats a good Formation.

I would go with something like this:

-----------------Toni/Gila---------------
----------Dp--------------Totti-------
---Pirlo--------Gattuso--------Camoranesi------

I'm sure Dp-Totti can work this way. I've seen them playing together couple of times, and they did pretty good. Imagine having Pirlo-Dp-Totti creating chances for the Attack Gila/Toni Ofcoarse the one in shape in form will be picked. But However, your Formation looks more reality to happen.

If DP and Totti can work together well playing and sharing the similar role, then by all means I would use that attacking lineup. Anyway, its ultimately up to Lippi- we can discuss when DP is on the plane to Germany. ;)
