Well, I don't know whether to jump for joy or rethink my gameplan.

Erik, I hope your buddy Van Basten is not planning on using Vlaar and Opdam as the central back pairing this summer...I thought they were absolutely awful against the Azzurri on Saturday. If you lot can build a solid back four before this summer we could be in for a surprise with all the attacking options at your disposal...hopefully van der Vaart will capture the same form for HSV this summer in Germany. Apart from Italy and the United States, of course, I hope the Nederlands goes far in Germany...much rather see orange lift the Cup rather than those overrated English or loathsome Brazilians. That's for sure...

Well if that's the case, which I hope it is, all we have to worry about is the host nation Germany progressing through to the Final...in some ways I would rather see England there than Zee Germans. You know what a great Final would be? Nederlands vs. Italia would be a dream come true, of course after the States reaching the Final which is pretty much out of the question.

Andy, the hardest thing to do in a world cup is to make it out of the group stages; after that if a team is in a good roll they can go the distance( think turkey, senegal)

I don't exactly agree with that...in my opinion the toughest match is always the next one, and considering the groups all vary in quality there can be some easier matchups for some nations out there, such as Germany's group in the last World Cup in which they mauled Saudi Arabia.

We're not reaching the final, we don't have what it takes. Our defence will be what it has always been; made up from defenders who are too attacking-minded to be good enough for world cups or european cups because that's how the Dutch school trains defenders. You can't play attacking football and defend very tightly at the same time. As always, the official FA line is that the tournament has been a success when we reach the Quarter Finals and I share that notion.
