To those of you that live california way...

Have any of you been to French Laundry ?

I have a meeting in a few weeks and my client has promised me dinner there as ive wanted to go for ages...

Jus wondering if anyones actually been, is it good, does it really warrant its ranking as the second best eatery on the planet ?
I've not been. I've had windows of time suddenly open up to go, but at the most inopportune times. It's still on my list. But anyone I know who has been there says it's worth every penny and lives up to expectations, which are extremely lofty.

Btw, I just got back from a long weekend in Big Sur/Monterey/Carmel and ate at a pretty decent place called L'Auberge Carmel. Dinner took about 3 1/2 hours, and there were 11 wine pairings. Very, very good (and expensive), though I think Marinus at Bernardus is the best food thing going in that area.

But what fun evening last night. Because the maitre d' at L'Auberge Carmel is from Napoli and a huge Napoli fan, he flipped out when he saw my Juve jacket... saying it was "very, very bad" for us. But later on, it was clear I made his night. We got into long discussions about Ferrara, Cannavaro, Avellino derbies, etc. The guy even invited my wife and I into the kitchen to check out the place and meet people, which was pretty cool. But then he introduced me to one of the head honchos there who is a Real Madrid fan, so I think he was primarily out for me to rub it in to his boss for our CL victories over the past three years. :D

So afterwards we walk up to the Il Fornaio bar in Carmel for a nightcap so I can get a decent grappa (one of the few places for one in the area). The place was shutting down and locking up at 9:30pm last night, but as soon as I walked in the chef says to his coworker at the bar stool, "Hey, I like his jacket!" So he gives me a big fellow juventino handshake and opens up the bar for me. Then, after my grappa, he gives me a loaf of fresh Italian bread to take home.

Even if 80% of the comments I get for my Juve jacket are from Juve-haters, it never fails to open up doors and conversations for me in the higher end food industry. My wife is just dumbfounded about how much access I get because of just the Serie A thing. ;)

the gomery report is almost here. i got shivers

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/nati...ational/2005/04/21/pmmartin-speech050421.html

The inquiry is investigating the sponsorship program – a $250-million project intended to promote national unity and to oppose separatism in Quebec after the 1995 referendum in that province.

In her February 2004 report, Auditor General Sheila Fraser said an estimated $100 million in commissions in relation to the program went to Liberal-friendly ad agencies for little or no work.

Liberals saw their support plummet in the polls after the inquiry heard of an alleged scheme to funnel taxpayers' dollars to the Liberal party through sponsorship contracts.

We move from stunning pictures of the sea to distasteful legal advice.

Has anybody here ever been cited for underage consumption of alcohol before? Well I was just over the weekend, and I'm not sure what to expect for a penalty. Hell, I don't even know if what the police did was valid...they really did not have any probable cause to call me over. I already received some great advice from Pado, so any more would certainly be welcomed.

Sent you a PM on my thoughts on this, Andy. When you're busted, you're busted. They won't take kindly to people trying to do the denial thing.

So I say fess up and be as sincere as you can that you've learned your lesson now that you're in college and need the grades. ;)

This is exactly what I did. I got two moving violations, and because I have a provisional license, they were suspending my license for 30 days. I told the "judge" (the guy at the mva, you don't even have to go to court, atleast in maryland) that I needed my license to go to school and work, and that I had learned my lesson...bla bla.. so he let me off the hook.

But the thing is Greg...if the police really did not have probable cause to give me a breathalizer, I will be giving up on the system. I feel like our friend Pado on this matter, how I am not exactly fond of letting the government win all the time. Its not like I was running around campus causing a disturbance or walking around in a drunken stuper, as I really only had a couple beers.

Burke's dad already called a friend of his who represents kids like me in court...hopefully he will give me the right advice and won't be too expensive to call upon.

Nah man we were just walking back to Enron's dorm room. We had just stepped out of Burke's car when the police rolled up and called me over asking if I was drinking. When we asked the police why they called us over they said that we were driving down the wrong way on a one-way street, which is incorrect from Burke's account on the situation. I said I was not even driving the car, but they really did not seem to care...just bullshited some answer to me and Enron. The police just called me over and gave me a random breathalizer...can't say I have ever seen that before.

But Andy, I'm not discounting any "honor" there is in upholding principles over just your own personal situation. But making points like that, and I've done it, are pyrrhic victories at best. Sometimes the principle is enough to go through with it. Often times it isn't worth it. And if all you had was a couple of beers, then it sounds like your best defense is the truth here. And if it is the truth, you should be all the more convincing as a witness.

(Though I take issue with the sort of thinking of "letting the government win all the time". People too easily take the cop out of me-versus-The-Man, when in fact you are the government. Welcome to at least what's supposed to be a representative democracy, even if most of our elected officials these days are really more federalists than purveyors of democracy.)

Any date announced on when they willl start playing in Comunale and the work in Delle Alpi starts?
is this an insider joke, or is this serious?

the comunale does not belong to juve anymore. it is now AC torino´s.

If we start to rebuild the dele allpi there are 2 soluthions. first we play elsewhere (Palermo, Regio calabria, etc.) or we still play in the dele allpi even if it is rebuilding.
