I realise that. I was merely pointing out that I don't believe the majority of Iraqis would agree they had it better under Saddam. With the exception of the Soonites (spelling), who obviously did.

I'm not saying that everything was peachy, but IMO the majority of people at least had peace and some sense of safety, withouth having to worry about getting blown up in a supermarket. I know a lot of people that spent time in Iraq in the 80's, my best friends father worked on the construction of Saddams underground bunkers, and all I'm saying is that perhaps the price paid for "democracy" is too high.

Well if they go along the road of a liberal democracy, or most things bar one man dictarship they it will be by default a better situation.

At least politcally. They might not be ecomonomically strong for years to come if the Americans did pinch some oil after all, as it is a major export for them.

Plus, how many billions and billions of dollars will be stolen by Iraqui officials.

BTW, not under Milošević, but certanly under Tito.

I remember his face. He was in that British comedy with that other guy who plays in that other comedy with a guy who has a strange face.
I just read about him, the other guy is also called Ronnie.

As much as they might have hated him, I dont recall there being street fights on this scale, suicide bombings every day, innocent people being killed by insurgents, etc. .
Cause thats so much worse than the 30 000 of his own people he killed with chemical weapons in 88....

or the 180 000 killed between 87 and 88...

or the 5 000 killed in a single day with mustard gas in 88

or the 2 000 villages and their inhabitants that were razed in the anfal campaign...

or draining the holy marshes.. forcing 200 000 of his own people to seek refuge in iran...

or the admitted 250 000 killed in 91.....

The estimated milion or so in mass graves throughout the desert...
The millions that have fled during his reign to the corners of the globe... (over 400 k in the uk alone)

etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc the list goes on and on and on and on and on... right up to the day he was captured...

Yeah... It was a better place in saddams time...
