Nah its nothing like that..its just that your a "tourist" chiquita...last time I ate in Little Italy I sat down and told the waiter "buona sera" he panicked and said "non comprende signor" in his native hispanic. There are very few real Little Italy's left in North America...
the exceptions that I have seen are: Montreal, Toronto and San Francisco (as compared to others).

ahahaha

I love being a tourist but Ive been to nyc a lot of times that I dont even go to all those places where the tourists are. If I were in the area Id rather eat somewhere in Soho though but in L. Italy the food isnt that bad... not my problem if you confused a mexican with an italian

Burke: did you wake up this morning covered with empties?

If not, you might be alright. ;)
Ok, this is what happened:

Went to a party last night, 5$ buy in. Got my cup, had about 8 to 10 beers.

Before this I had 3 beers at this kids house, pre-gaming it.

Then after the party, 5 beers and a double shot of some Brazilian liquor.

Then I had to drive 20 minutes home and had an 8 AM class, needless to say, I don't think I made it.

    sorry andy but...

    :howler:
Are you sure your not a blond?

The point of the story wasn't mixing up a Mexican (as opposed to Mexi-can't) with an Italian...the point was that when I sit in a restaurant like Mela or Luna or MAMA whatever I assume people will speak Italian or at least know what "Buona sera" means....
there is very little Italian left in these restaurants besides the name.

Greg: I tried a good variety of espresso in the Bay Area...ready for my comments...

Carrabbas is better than Olive Garden anyway. Sorry Pado. ;)
I hate the muthafocking Olive Garden. Have not been to one in 17 years. Piss on you Andy. Mama Leoni's is a famous tourist spot in NYC for you, bastard.

Lol I know I just said that last thing to tease you.

Anyway the place I ate at was good, Im not gonna argue with you over this because it makes no sense, but I think its obvious that not all people in all italian restaurants in the world will speak italian or will have traditional italian food... You could expect an exception in a place called Little Italy, but theres also a Little Italy at the Showcase of the Worlds in Disneyworld... just look at Bertuccis they claim they have a certificate for traditional italian pizzas awarded by someone in Italy

Burke, so let me get this straight. You missed a class on the SECOND DAY OF CLASSES? What in Sam's hell is wrong with you?

Did Dad implement that no drinking on school nights rule yet?

While SF's North Beach is on Nick's Little Italy list, it too has succumbed to suburban flight and encroachment by other ethnicities in the area... such as Chinatown. So I, like Nick, am finding fewer and fewer Italian enclaves in this country where you can say "buona sera" and someone has a clue.

Chicago's Little Italy lost a lot in the past 20 years. Boston's North End is slowly aging itself out. Etc...

In fact, most of the Italian-run outfits I know in SF need to be fluent in Spanish because of the labor force.

Greg: I tried a good variety of espresso in the Bay Area...ready for my comments...
Most of them were likely over-extracted horse dung. The Bay Area is notoriously (or at least surprisingly) weak for espresso, with a few very notable exceptions. (Of course, I was shocked when I was in NYC a few months back and found them to be far, far worse than SF on average, but...)

    So lay them on! :D
