Arrigo Sacchi.
Do you give Sacchi the credit for the domination in that era? True he has the numbers and he had a major role in the achievement, but he is not the only one to take the credit.

Athletes train hard into their later years until they hit this point where their training habits cannot keep up with their slide in physical abilities when compared to their opponents. Then there's the downward spiral -- like a dieter who suddenly says "screw it all!" and goes all Kirstie Alley ballistic overnight. Juve is showing some signs there, but IMO, it's even more of a case at Milan.
Tell you why this will not happen. Juve's D was made up of Montero-Iuliano-Thuram-Tudor-Ferrara, etc. There was no NESTA that could SUPPORT an aging defender. More to the point, Montero's decline meant he resorted to hacking opponents down whereas a faltering Maldini will be slower (as he has been) but maintain excellent positioning and leadership which an aging Montero could not do. In the end of the day, an aging Maldini has more to offer than an aging Montero. I am not satisfied with our defense however I believe that Nesta and Maldini complement one antoher helping Maldini "extend his retirement". Despite popular belief I also don't believe he is 'finished' given his incredible amount of games he plays at 37 years old: CL and Serie A and the level. Yes, he is not the 90's Maldini ...but given the lack of STRONG defenders in Italy he still stands out.

Didn't say that...someone asked for a successful CL manager and my response is Arrigo Sacchi. He put together a team that is still classified as one of the strongest ever in Europe. This got to his head and he was never able to match that feat.
Plus, Apart from his own CL titles his team went on to win another title under Capello.

I asked for the successful manager, I think Sacchi is the only one who fits the title actually.

    Two Words, little bro:

    GAME ON!!!!!!!!!!
    YES!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot about that...thank goodness they finally reached an agreement even though the players got totally fecked over. I don't really care though, because now we have our hockey back. Hopefully people will still care about the sport, and the officials will make some changes to the rules to make the game a bit more exciting with less stopages, such as extending the blue line so that players can advance earlier into the other team's zone. Something needs to be done to get rid of shitty trapping teams aka Calgary Flames and the Devils.

It should be interesting to see who will still be around after one year off, and who will be the top teams next season. But the prospect of going back to the Joe a couple times this season brings back good memories. :touched:

My take on the NHL agreement:

Back at home for the time being I am exposed to more details and discussions of the deal..in my opinion, the NHLPA's Bob Goodnow is a just a plain moron. He had the players hold out and thereby ruin the season causing owners to lose money, players to lose money and the possible 'death' of the NHL as a major league in the U.S. Hold out for what..apparently nothing.
The players are now faced with a salary cap of 34 million which they were dead set against. A maximum 7.4 million a year salary to a player. They got an arbitration procedure similiar to the MLB and an increase in rookie salaries. Basically, they got screwed.
I wonder what will happen to the teams with enormous salaries and players getting well over 7.4 million. Either a) they will use some interesting accounting methods or b) ship players out to make room financially.

Andy...HOW can you say that teams like the Flames and Devils should be booted out?? If anything francishes like Nashville should go first...the Devils are pretty damn successful for a team that was established about 20 years ago.

Well to be honest the way the situation was handled it seemed like the club owners wanted the season to be locked out from day one, not spending money on anything this year and then waiting for Gary Bettman (the man who put the NHL in this shitty situation) to impose a very low salary cap. Even though I concur Goodnow is a top class imbecile, this whole problem was created by the greedy Bettman who wanted to expand the league by putting teams in places where nobody gives a flying F about hockey and giving places such as Atlanta and Minnesota another chance in the hockey market. Outcome? Disaster. Owners of the small teams started to become flustered trying to compete with the likes of the Wings and Devils, deciding to spend spend spend when their revenue was very low to begin with. Then they realised they couldn't compete anyways, so we have this disaster.

WHERE did I say Trapping teams like the Devils should be "booted out?" The point I was trying to make was that the NHL should change the rules just enough so that the hockey defensive tactic of "trapping" could not be employed anymore. Trapping is when teams basically lock up the center of the ice so that nothing can come through the neutral zone, taking advantage of the two line pass rule (which I hate) and the minimal blue line where it's easy to be offside. These tactics just slow down the game and it becomes a mess out on the ice with the puck being launched around from zone to zone. getting rid of those rules will open up play and make the sport more exciting.
