Even if you compared it to say the military budget, you could still say it's apples vs toothpaste because they both serve different purposes. The main point of the article is to show how little nasa funded when more is being spent on air conditioning alone in a foreign country for the military.
The folly with such a statement is that there are a lot of people who think NASA is overfunded as it is (as the Drive-By Truckers pay homage to it in "Puttin' People on the Moon"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD_ELIz1uc8

So you can't assume the premise work, because a lot of people think a little for NASA is still too much.

That gets into pet issue politics. A lot of people don't know the cost of things, which makes them ignorant of what funding is required for decent results. Let alone are few capable of doing a reasonable cost-benefit analysis.

People want tax dollars to help the poor, while others want none of that. Some want to fund a space program, while others see that as a folly when there are so many unemployed or kids without parents or decent schools. Some think that schools should get money no matter what, without considering any checks and balances on whether it's being spent efficiently or properly.

You don't have to look far to see that the government funds incarcerating black people far more than it funds their education.

All I know is it's going to take a long time for anything to get done there, maybe never who knows... I know once they see the chinese putting men on the moon then they will want to get some national pride back or something, although maybe people are too stupid to care these days.

Don't know if anyone has said this, but ironically, today is NASA's 50th birthday...

:D

there are many more things that should be cut before nasa's tiny budget is cut.
Pork-Barrel Projects, and the like.

This isn't necessarily true.

It's like saying we need to spend a lot of money on finding shoes which will allow us to fly when the shoes we have now cause 500 tons of Greenhouse Gasses each year.

In terms of money, R&D, which NASA is really ONLY about shows less cost:benefit than things which work, are needed, and are proven.

True dat. Competition is what got the US into space in the first place. More following than leading, really.
Same is true with aerospace engineering, as in planes, trains, and automobiles. Also, it wasn't until Einstein said, "HEY FUCKERS, I'm from Germany, and Germany has this idea of an 'Atom Bomb,' this is something we should explore."

It wasn't until that letter that the University of Chicago's squash court, and J-Bobby came into play.

I would agree, following rather than leading, but fear of being second or missing something is more cause than anything.

NASA wasn't even among the first american companies/organizations to launch satellites. Their contributions haven't been that significant to a higher quality of life but I still believe in funding them. What they get now is fine, unless it is decided that there's higher benefit to space research.

No money for NASA? Just magicly create more money for NASA and problem solved. It's not like money comes from something concrete and not thin air.

Maybe, but I couldn't take out either Jeff Dunham, and Whore-hey is worth a list on his own, and Kathy used to be a LITTLE, stress little, attractive. I'd let her suck my friend's dicks, so she's got that going for her.

Could you imagine?

"Yo, Andy, what do you mean? Don't you remember when I got that bitch to suck your dick?"

"YEA, BURKE, BUT IT WAS FUCKING KATHY GRIFFIN! SHE DIDN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE SOCIALIST MINDSET OF THE WALL STREET BUBBLE OF 2008!"
I miss Andy. You brought it all back for me.
