Well, we kinda are though :D

I mean the same impulses certainly exist, but you don't see a mob attacking the prison to violently free Avary. Signing a petition is still very different from a mob ;)
Not on the flipside. You're switching guilt with not-guilty. Lynch mobs are about presumed guilt and extra-judicial justice metering. Even the Black Panthers didn't shoot up the courts over "Free Huey Newton".

Well yeah, the basic principle is similar, but the methods employed show very well how society has evolved since the mobs of the 18th century. The movement is still not very intelligent, but at least they're not storming prisons and breaking people out by force.

Not necessarily.

Seriously, you could say the same of any piece of investigative journalism. The documentary surely doesn't show the ultimate truth, and no one in here is arguing that you should free Avery based on it, but it is a very powerful example of what can go wrong in the (US) legal system.

What happenend in Cologne was horrible, period.
But the reaction of the media and a lot of people in general has been pretty frightening as well.

Oh, and that facebook page is seriously disgusting.
In what way? I've tried avoiding this matter, but more reports are coming in and it's pretty messed up. The big question is now: what the hell is going on?

I haven't the time to fully read every report, but here's what I gather: At New Years Eve a large crowd of (at least partly) drunk people gathered in front of the main train station in Cologne and celebrated, among that group being a large proportion of Arab or North African men. Then during the night dozens of women standing there or passing through were sexually harassed, the polics being largely unable to control the situation or to really get ahold of the offenders. How many people were really assaulted is still not quite clear, I've seen reports ranging from 40 to 400. Pretty fucking horrible.

But the reaction has been nothing short of shocking as well, xenophobia & hate has reached unprecedented levels, and while what happened is of course absolutely unacceptable, the problem is that the backlash hits the entirety of immigrants and especially refugees living in Germany. Virtually all newspaper comment sections have become completely unreadable, and a lot of social media pages are simply scary to look at (such as the one linked above, which among other things congratulated a guy who wanted to assault random immigrants with a butchering knife). Right wing groups are forming "self-defence militias", and one of those has just yesterday attacked and hospitalized six random Pakistanis and one Syrian in Cologne.

Usually the first ones that migrate aren't exactly the do gooders. Anyway, it's a shame that a lot of innocent and decent people get thrown into the same pot as filthy arab terrorist immigrant because of this. But let's be honest, most of those people are from different world to europe, most of them are filthy and nasty.

Those peoples would spit you in the back if you ignore them them, that is their way. It's laughable to think that all these immigrants that came here are angels. And probably half of them are nasty, west hating, leeches or even something worse.

There are so many factors to this. On the one hand you have to understand that a lot of these people are traumatized both by what they saw at home and the journey they faced coming to Europe.

On the other hand I have met a lot of pricks among these asylum seekers. Young twentysomething men in particular will just outright ask you how much money they can expect Belgium to give them each month. Often they feel Belgium owes them this and they shouldn't have to ever work.

So honestly I don't even know what to make of it all anymore.

Totally agree on the bolded part. This was what the fascist right wing "needed".
But we know a lot now. Internal reports shows that police have been withholding information, cause they are afraid of repercussions against refugees. This also happened in other cities and countries too. Reports from Finland, Austria and Sweden. I think it's a big scandal in Sweden (@Osman), cause it turns out that Swedish police - since 2014 - have been quiet about sexual assault on girls to an annually festival. The youngest girls were only 11 years old. We really have to talk open about these problems.

I'm a pessimist. I think the xenofhobic right wing have won. For the first time in my life, I'm actually afraid of the outcome.

Yeah, gotta do something about those scumbags assaulting girls. Can't be so lenient with certain groups just because they came from a different place. Either assimilate and live under the rules of the place you just inhabited or gtfo.

I blame the aggressive leftwing feminists. Sweden don't talk about these problems and extremists group thrive there.

With a new election in the U.S., I'm brushing up passport #2 myself.

Mein Kampf has little to none actual significance for today's extreme right wing, though, it is somewhat symbolic though.

Another case in point is Finland btw: http://nationalvanguard.org/2015/10/finland-nationalist-street-patrols-now-a-reality/

(Haven't read the article admittedly, but a German one about the "Sons of Odin". Their leader is pretty openly national socialist btw.
