This law made more sense when there was only 13 colonies and the population was only 2.5 million. People tended to live in isolation and it was harder to enforce the law. Today people tend to live in major cities, stacked on top of each other at times and the arm of the law is vast and heavily equipped and trained. It doesn't make sense to arm everyone. The stats speak for themselves. There's seriously an unhealthy obsession with weapons in this country and protecting their precious property. I mean if I drive 10 miles west of here I see signs saying "Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again"
