An editorial from FI holds as much weight as an elephant in space
It's probably the first semi-decent piece of journalism I've ever seen on that website. And I've frequented it way too much for 8 or 9 years now.

These paragraphs make a good point:

Europe’s grandest football clubs have an identity and tradition which, for example, no NFL team could hope to match. Soccer can never hope to compete with the glamour of the Super Bowl, but equally the Dallas Cowboys will never have the tradition of Real Madrid. Just this year, Manchester City returned to a more traditional crest, looking to emphasise 120 years of history rather than the nouveau riche image of the club today.

Juve, by contrast, were proud to announce that the new logo will applied to “the brand’s physical and digital effects from July 2017”. The brand. Not the club, not the team. The brand. From something identifiably Italian and Torinese, the badge has become something as processed as McDonald’s, as blandly universal as a U2 song. All this despite that fact that football-obsessed children the world over can surely already identify the Bianconeri’s logo. There’s a reason Nike don’t bother changing the Swoosh.

Complaining about the commercialisation of football is akin to spitting in the wind, and the truth is that the naked corporatism might be slightly less nauseating if the damn thing weren’t so UGLY.

Our logo is not our identity. It will still be about "winning is the most important thing", an Italian core, team above the individual, hard work and sacrifice, etc etc
Yes but it's those little things like crests and logos which remind a club or even a whole country about its identity. Things like tradition and identity are virtues you can't take for granted lest they are lost forever.

OLA!
True... I would have personally kept the crest, but I think in time it won't matter much

How is it that RM, Barca and Man U can sell shitloads more stuff than us and yet hold on to virtually the same logos they've always had? I'm wondering if Juve's marketing team ever even bothered to ask themselves that question before they decided to spend bucket loads of cash on that piss poor design and not a Pogba replacement :p

Do we any info on how Italians fans are reacting to this? I mean the ones from Torino. Are they protesting at the clubs HQ?

@monza @Mark
most think it's ugly but can bring us more cash.

2 cats showed up during farsopoli so I don't think they should worry about a logo.

"a fucking nightmare"

I really like it and it's awesome that we're keeping up with times, especially if it brings us more cash.

Barca, United and Madrid are lucky in the sense that they were the most marketable teams and also were the most successful during the rise of social media in the mid to late 2000's (to a lesser extent so were Chelsea, Milan and Arsenal). Juventus have to make themselves more marketable to compete financially, but I feel they can only do that by winning the CL and signing marquee players, not by changing a logo that perfectly encapsulates the essence of Juventus.

J)Believe me, the other teams in the world are looking very closely into this, if we'll end up making $#@!loads of money through merchandise you're probably going to see a new Real Madrid logo, a new logo for Barca and Manchester United finally changing their logo fully to Pogba's face.

We took a risky move, we had to. Hopefully it pays of.
And with every such change Juventus will be mentioned as the first club who did it :touched: #firstneverfollows
