Matic was the player on everybody's lips when it came to "who is the first player to be replaced in the summer?". Now that we've signed Tiemoue Bakayoko, Matic has gone to 4th in the pecking order, after Kante, Bakayoko and Cesc.

Matic featured week in, week out last season only because Antonio Conte felt it was right to play with two holding midfielders all the time, with Cesc coming on in the 2nd half. Now that Bakayokos here, there is no future for Matic in the first team. Only on the bench. He does not want to be on the bench and Chelsea does not want him anymore either. Soon to be 29 and two years left on his contract. 40M is a great deal. Matic is definitely on his way out.

United is not an option anymore so Juventus is the only viable option.

So as a Chelsea fan, having watched him for the past three seasons, I can tell you this - decent player against smaller sides, utter wank against top teams. As a comparison, Spurs' Dembele is everything we wanted Matic to be. But better put it this way - Matic is a poor mans Thiago Motta.

For me he is a better fit as a defensive midfielder in a three man midfield where he has to do only the dirty work. Don't make him try fancy passes or build from the back because he is awful at it. Protect the backline and spray some passes left or right, that's what he does best.

Also his passing skills are meh... He's left footed, plays it safely, no long passes, no diagonal passes, just short ones, 85-90% of the time with the left back or the left winger.

He's clearly been found out in the PL mostly because of his pace (never been a speedster, but nowadays he's slow as a boat) and his passing skills. Thrives when there is no pressure, but looks like a deer in the headlights against teams that press high up the pitch and make him into playing one touch passes.

But I think he'll do just fine at Juventus in a slower league and a team that has lots of possession most of the time.
Thiago Motta and Matic aren't even the same type of player. Thiago Motta has a solid passing game, and used to be the one to dictate the tempo of play. He is more than just a destroyer DM.

Talk him down all you want, Matic is a more complete player than Bakayoko will ever be,
Whatever suits you better mate. Seems you only believe what you like to hear.

It's an honest opinion coming from somebody that has watched Matic play week in week out for the past two seasons and in spite of what you think and all the "talk Matic down" bullshit I did not say anything about Bakayoko being a better player, not compare the two of them.

Matic is actually a decent player that personally I would keep hold of as a backup player. But this is not possible - he does not want to be on the bench and the club would prefer to sell him now, rather than wait one more season and let him go on the cheap. A 30 yo Matic with one year left on his contract would probably be worth around 20M, maybe less if he stays put at Chelsea this season and gets little playing time.

I have a similar opinion as you regarding Matić. He's a nice option to have but for 40m and as a starter - definitely no. I can already see the tree jokes after a couple games for us.

:agree: If he comes here he will definitely be hated by some. Exactly the kind of player that people like to blame.

Three man midfield and you get a solid player. Two man midfield you'd get dominated against big clubs and you'd lack distribution, forwards would find it hard to receive balls unless they drop deep.

Matic thrives with two quality centre midfielders next to him. Would protect the backline and do the simple things.

One of his best matches in a Chelsea top IMHO. It's three and a half years ago, not the same player anymore, he was 25 and unfortunately age comes to us all, especially to football players who rely on pace and work rate in their early 20s.

Yaya Toure was a powerhouse at that point, Matic went to the Etihad and destroyed him.

I wish I had 1/10th of his wealth. The dude is fucking cool, and doesn't give two shits about what people think :D
Personally I think people only become interested in transsexuals because they have issues with sexuality, usually heavily abusing porn or even having become straight up sex addicts. When you first learn about sex, transsexuals isn't really something you automatically want. So clearly Lapo's got a bit of work to do on this front.
