Isn't there such a thing as a British National Anthem as well though? At least, I always thought "Rule Brittania" was used as such.

God Save the Queen is Britain's national anthem. A lot of people think it's England's actual national anthem because they use it at their football matches and other sporting events. People have actually called for it to be changed to something more 'English', like Rule Britannia or Land of Hope and Glory, but this probably won't happen because both songs have been associated with far-right racist elements amongst the English. AFAIK Jerusalem is also commonly used as an 'anthem'

I actually think they should use something else at their sports matches etc. People are increasingly disheartened towards the monarchy anyway, and it's much more inspiring and patriotic to see, for example, Scotland singing Flower of Scotland.

Our anthem is from our greatest poetist and if you see carefully you'll see that it's in the shape of a glass, since the whole poem (it's a bit longer than just this couple verses) is a "cheers" poem ... yeah yeah we are great drinkers

It's just that in European anthems there will pretty often be kings and queens all over the place and in anthems of younger nations, the emphasis is more on the country and its people themselves.

Also the language of course: it's much older and harder to understand in European cases.

I think it's amazing that the translater has kept the meaning of the anthem while also making it rhyme in English

* they kept the word mansae to rhyme with 'away', but the translation of that word basically means "Forza Korea" (which I know will be insulting to many italians, but i think everyone gets the idea that way )

The Irish language always suprises me in its apprent complexity! So do people actually sing it in Irish then? It's difficult to make out the language with an entire football stadium making noise in the background

Yes, we sing it in Irish. Not always particularly well, but we try. I couldn't even try to sing it in English - I've never learned it that way.
