Italian President Giorgio Napolitano was among the many Azzurri fans celebrating the side’s impressive European Championship opening display against defending champions Spain. And the politician conveyed his pride by personally congratulating Cesare Prandelli’s team shortly after the final whistle.
“Well done,” Napolitano said to the players, before hugging Gigi Buffon. “You also made a great political speech at the Quirinal Palace,” he reminded the goalkeeper, who put in a strong performance to keep the Spaniards at bay.
