Not even close to what Trump is doing, but I remember Berlusconi going against the constitution and judiciary, framing them as obstacles. Time after time he pushed laws to protect himself from prosecution.

Orban too maybe?
Perhaps it's not that Trump is worse than Berlusconi, but that there are less safeguards in American democracy.

In the US the political world has traditionally relied on speeches and the spoken word in general. This is not a bad thing, when the audience is educated and chooses to elect leaders with at least some sense of decency and intelligence. Whether or not you agree with JFK's policies for example, the man could speak. The gradual dumbing down of American society seems to have led to figures like Trump and the erosion of institutions such as the Supreme Court and Congress. Nixon might have been a bad person, but even he would recognize that you cannot dismantle the government from within and expect to remain top dog in world politics.

I truly believe Europeans are less susceptible to speeches, probably because at one point some of us (I'm looking at you, @DAiDEViL) fell for the most stupid speeches known to man. But also in many smaller European countries like Belgium and the Netherlands or in Scandinavian countries, there is no real tradition of rallying behind one strong man.

and that's an administration, not some racist loser in their mom's basement. murica is great again

Does anyone even want to go in to the US at this point? That's probably Trump's biggest achievement.

I imagine midday sun is peak time for people attempting to cross as well. They don't have night time in Mexico. Genius.
You just know it's some Trump affiliated contracting company that is going to paint the wall.

@MAXCAP
@Hust

Do you support painting the wall?

Do you think this is more important than prosecuting pedophiles?

It's not even new for Trump. From 5 years ago:

Note the $1 million per mile estimate in 2020 US dollars (i.e., pre-Covid inflation) by Trump's own border patrol goons. At 1,954 miles of the US-Mexico border, that comes out to a $2 billion cost to taxpayers just for the first coat of paint.

Plus the regular maintenance costs of repainting... If the Golden Gate Bridge is any guide, it is 1.7 miles long and costs $300,000 annually to paint in 2022 dollars:
https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/myth-about-sf-golden-gate-bridge-16848740.php

Which suggests this the annual repainting/maintenance costs could reasonably be around $400 million per year.

All of which could be defeated by wearing gloves, long pants, or leaping the wall at night.

Which, as Fox News itself noted, happens all the time:

If the contractor is related to Trump, high maintenance costs is exactly what he wants.

crimea: ~27k km2
texas: ~700k km2

crimea is a peninsula, it's not at the middle of anything, and it's not the ocean but the black sea that surrounds most of it

this guy would easily be the dumbest, less informed person on tuz
