i'm not a constitutional lawyer but i know that us police can't enter your home without a warrant, they are obliged to identify themselves, they cannot search or detain you without reasonable suspicion of a crime, etc

based on many reports, ice are doing the exact opposite though. it's a separate and powerful branch of law enforcement that looks like existing outside of the rules. no id's, no warrants, no questions asked, just instant, faceless intimidation and violence. i can't remember anything this reminiscent of gestapo in the civilized post ww2 world

and it's counterproductive too. they might deport some illegals, but it undermines general trust towards the government and the state, and it will create a huge vacuum on the labor market. they are there in first place because nobody wanted to do the dirty jobs they are doing. administrative solution would be much better for everyone involved: legalize the status of those who are actually working, deport those who aren't. looking at ice's alleged 160bn budget, it would also be much less expensive too
