I sometimes wonder to myself what proportion of people would commit serious crimes like this if they believed there was no accountability or punishment. I'm actually quite pessimistic in terms of numbers, I think it'd be higher than we may think. Over history we've seen it many times before.

Stock market under Bush:
-30% in 8 years.

+61% in 4 years

America has long had cognitive dissonance over illegal and temporary foreign immigration. We are addicted to cheap labor to keep products and services cheap and accessible, but we would rather be unemployed than take those jobs for that pay. We also protest minimum wage hikes and unions promoting higher wages for labor but sure as hell prefer the cheap Chinese version to one made with expensive American labor.

We also have a weird brain fart in believing that human migration is new and national borders are fixed and static when we've been roamers since our ancestors were in Africa.

That said, the point now isn't to argue that Obama expelled more illegals than Trump has (and he did). The point is what politicians are using to manipulate the public for power. While there have been foreign violent drug gangs in the US for decades, that isn't what this crackdown is about otherwise that would be the focus of it.

This is about packaging fear theater. Yes, your grocery bag boy is a rapist and is taking your job and home -- even if you'd never work as a bag boy for bag boy money, and you'd never live in a home with 18 of your relatives. Kristi Noem is putting on costumes pretending to be a DC Comic supervillain that fights the injustice of evil foreigners. Trump watches an old movie and couldn't make an abandoned Alcatraz financially viable as a prison, so he created Florida Dollar Tree Alcatraz instead. And to support the visual theater were all being sold, we're not seeing round-ups of drug empires. Get those numbers up and start with the low-hanging fruit.
