Not to repeat myself, but did I ever mention the true story of when my father worked with Trump on the artwork needed for his casino and resorts IPO in 1995? Apologies to those who heard this before...
Because they were NYSE shares, a minimum number of shares have to be issued with paper certificates. The NYSE also has regulations on the artwork on the certificates, such as requiring things like a human face, line drawings for scaled reproducibility, etc., to also help prevent counterfeiting.
My father was a lifetime commercial artist and did everything, but he loved detailed drawings. So after being canned as the last sole survivor of an art department at a packaging company after 30 years, at age 61 he got his dream job at a bank note company and loved it ... doing more drawing than he ever did in his life.
He was assigned to work with the Trump Resorts & Casinos for their NYSE certificates and IPO.
Trump's people provided my dad all sorts of photographs of Trump to work from as source material, and he developed various sample line drawings from their photos.
Trump rejected them all, saying, "I don't look handsome enough."
My dad was like, "Who is this clown? I'm working with what he actually looks like."
My dad was a crazy-detailed line-drawer obsessed with realism and gifted with insane patience ... as in detailed woodcarvings. So he wasn't some slapdash paint smearer like the woman who painted Trump for the Colorado State Capitol.
So my dad had to add some Prince Charming vibes and Instagram filter his image by hand before Instagram even existed. Attached is the result.
Hence I've been laughing my ass off at the Colorado Capitol story, because he's making it sound like the freaky bust of Ronaldo at the Funchal, Madeira airport. He is as shallow as he was 30 years ago with my dad.
98% of Americans I know have no clue that China has over 100 EV companies and that their level of tech makes things like Teslas look like dinosaurs. BYD builds twice the car for 1/4 the price. So those tariffs are going to have to go up 800%.
With so much EV competition in China, they have no margin to go cheap and low so they're competing by building high-end luxury EVs on the cheap.
Just getting in an EV cab in Shanghai, the entire dashboard is a gigantic video display screen... stuff unheard of in the US today.
