I negotiate contracts for a living, and yes, what Trump is doing is a common tactic amongst multi billion dollar companies. They just swing their big dick around expecting that you'll just give in to their demands. But you know what? Sometimes, even after reluctantly signing the deal, you start thinking to yourself "is it really worth it to deal with these people again?".

Even if Trump gets a deal, it will damage the relationship with his allies and further alienate them. It's just not good for future businesses.

Sucks for Canada and Mexico though, as they are constrained by their proximity to the USA.
