next time dems run with any woman they'll lose once again, regardless of the economic situation
if trump had a chance to run for a 4th time, he'd win in 2028 vs harris even if he implemented his idiotic tariffs and wrecked the economy. people don't learn, they should have known from his first term that he is unable to handle a crisis and raised federal debt like a champ. he won vs clinton too when the world economy in 2016 was in a state of grace with a relatively high growth and record low inflation in developed economies (didn't check us data specifically but i suppose they aligned well with the rest of the world)

For all the criticisms of Trump's tariffs and trade war policy during his last term the Biden/Harris administration kept much of it in place and sought to expand it (granted not to the same extent as Trump's current plans), despite the economic detriment to everyday households. With the tarrifs/trade war it's also as much a geopolitical stunt as it is economical because of the bipartisan support for containing China's technological development, which is a far more important issue for the US ruling class than improving domestic living standards is.
as a mean of generating budgetary revenue, tariffs in general are normal, part of the good majority of the tax policy of countries. protectionism has been an integral part of most countries' (or communities like the eu) policy for centuries. nothing wrong with those in general. the eu just slapped an extra 7.8-35.3% tariff (on top of the general 10% import duty) on chinese cars to protect their industry, and i fully support that.
but you have to make a distinction between tariffs in the acceptable range and trump's insanity. the issue is that trump
1. communicated a gazillion times that foreign countries will pay the tariffs, which is utter bullshit, would result in an instant fail at any taxation/economics class. people (trump voters included) deserve better transparency. the press should have explained ad nauseum how tariffs work and don't let donald get away with false promises, and the gop is also responsible for nominating a liar. it is a promise that is literally impossible to keep. they are banking on stupidity and ignorance.
2. according to his vague speeches wants excessive (often unspecified) tariffs on many (often unspecified) products that would fuel inflation. 200% on john deere tractors made in mexico is one specific rate i can remember. and that is simply nuts

As much as the U.S. always surprises and delights me with new levels of racism and sexism I didn't know it still had, I'm still not there in believing that Mexico can elect a female president but the U.S. can't. It depends on the person, just as Obama wasn't just any black man.
I could be completely proven wrong, however. Tulsi Gabbard might never be viable in GOP or Democrat eyes for that matter. In which case, the news would be grim for JD Vance: the superficiality of the voting public won't elect a short man with a beard covering for a weak chin as much as they wouldn't stand for a woman looking subservient next to the likes of Putin, Xi, Kim Jong Un.

So the hope would be these people have enough compassion for human beings that they disregard orders that are illegal or unconstitutional under the "duty to disobey", like putting kids in cages and stuff like that. I can't imagine all parents would be cool with that. But who knows, it happened before.

We know a lot of MAGA consists of literal Nazis and pseudo-Nazis. That much is clear, just look at those two scumbags. However, I don't think every single person who voted for Trump is a Nazi. Some are obviously stupid as fuck, yes. But others have kids, go to church, probably have been in combat scenarios, et cetera. So the hope would be these people have enough compassion for human beings that they disregard orders that are illegal or unconstitutional under the "duty to disobey", like putting kids in cages and stuff like that. I can't imagine all parents would be cool with that. But who knows, it happened before.

In this particular case though I'd also add that Harris perhaps just wasn't a convincing candidate. I mean, if I were American I really would want to vote against Trump. But I did follow the Democrat campaign and there were only fleeting moments in which I thought maybe people would also want to vote for Harris. Part of that is perhaps the lack of clear message in terms of policy. But it's also that she does not have the charisma of a Michelle Obama.
