Not to beat a dead horse but the picture they show in that article it was the "peaceful" protesters who got arrested for pulling a gun on the driver

https://www.wave3.com/2020/06/18/pr...-altercation-with-driver-downtown-louisville/

I looked up the writer's credentials, buzzfeed/Muslim and race issues :sergio:
Guess what? They removed the tweet and changed the picture in the new one.
I get your problem with it though. Obviously I’m not saying it’s only right wing fuckers being violent.

"In 2017, Stanford’s Matthew Gentzkow looked at a series of Pew Research Center surveys of Americans’ views on policies ranging from government regulation to welfare, immigration, and the environment, and noted that fewer individuals in 2014 than 10 years earlier held positions that put them across the political divide from their own, self-identified political party. “Most Americans hold relatively moderate views on, say, immigration,” he writes. “But the frequency of Republicans holding pro-immigrant views, or Democrats holding anti-immigrant views, has decreased substantially.” Where Americans’ political views and social attitudes, charted, might once have looked like a bell curve, with the majority gathered at a moderate center, the line increasingly shows two separate humps where Democrats and Republicans congregate. "

I understand that people have become more polarized on policies but this below about the difference in Republicans and Democrats' opinion on how religious Trump is (62% v 12% of them believe he's very/somewhat religious) is bizarre (64% of white evangelicals hold that opinion too).

Can you teach a donkey do trigonometry or I don't know, geodesy, navigation?

Between this and having to teach a demographic that makes up 13% of the population to not commit 40-50% of all violent crimes, I'll take my chances with the donkey, thanks :baus:

Best video on the subject of public immigration 'debate' between left and right you'll never watch
The debate on immigration in the US (at least the one that is put in front of the public) is really no longer an economic one. The left tries to take the moral superiority position (i.e., the right is opposed to immigration because they are racist) and the right needs something to scare their base of (the immigrants are why you don't have jobs) and it is funny, I agree, that in taking those positions the economic stances we typically know left and right for get blurred and even reversed.

Sanders was attacked for what he said here by Democrats (but that's because he's a decent human being who stands for what he believes though the Bernie who was running against Hillary was rather different from the one who was running against Biden):

“Open borders?” he interjected. “No, that’s a Koch brothers proposal.” The idea, he argued, is a right-wing scheme meant to flood the US with cheap labor and depress wages for native-born workers. “I think from a moral responsibility, we’ve got to work with the rest of the industrialized world to address the problems of international poverty,” he conceded, “but you don’t do that by making people in this country even poorer.”

Leftists are for freedom of expression as long as you agree with them.

The right / left conception is outdated in a globalized world where politics has lost all power of influence( see the feminization of politics), multinational companies are much more powerful than states and impose their rules.

Some marginal societal markers are there to remind voters: look we're a left party because we're in favour of gay marriage or against abortion for a right party...
but for major subjects they are doing the same economic policy, Bush, Clinton or Obama. It's normal they studied in the same schools, go to the same dinners and have the same vision of the world. The arrival of Trump (and the will of China to assert in the world) has broken this artificial cleavage, and to impose a cleavage between the sovereignists and protectionist on the one hand, and from other side those in favor of ever more globalization, free trade and more financial deregulation(soft and tasteless liberal right-left) . This cleavage will only increase with the problem of immigration, the climate crisis, brexit, the awareness by western citizens of their country's dependence on China during the pendemaking.

For immigration, the idiotic left parties in a typical idealist vision SJW wants to welcome the misery of the world by not caring and even denying the consequences on the society because these people who often come from far away don't share the same code and values that the host countrie which creates tensions. On the other side the right supported by the employers, pretends to fight against immigration, but in reality do nothing, because this immigration working off the books, accepts lower wages and are more docile, which constitutes, as Marx says, an external reserve army to put downward pressure on wages.

Watch this short clip:

There's no impact on wages for low-skilled workers with increasing supply of said workers as the market is already flooded with low skilled workers. It's not like you can pay them nothing. It doesn't make sense to bring in millions of unskilled workers when many of those jobs will be eliminated with automation, whether it be fast food kiosks or robots that can be machine-learned to pick fruit (futuristic for sure, but prototypes already marketed). At that point all that you have is yet another class of people who have no futures other than government handouts or resorting to crime within their own unassimilated communities, which will hopefully be lessened once the drug war is ended. But I'm sorry, just like the US shouldn't be Team America world police, it also shouldn't be a welfare haven either.

Excellent post, sir. I think that's a good synopsis of both political parties. The vast majority of people aren't racist, anti-gay, or criminal looters. Most folks just want to left alone and make money, but to push an agenda you always need an enemy. Whether it be Arabs after 9/11, or supposed racist police departments, all of it used to divide and conquer. I always go back to this and people I know simply don't care or don't understand, but look at how the Repubs and Democrats questioned the central bank's J Powell this past week -- no questions of substance, only nonchalant approval of everything they do. The Fed, along with the elite, are provided cover by keeping the masses distracted by internal conflict while the country is looted.

All of this violence that you see now against women, in particular, makes me wonder where the #metoo movement is in all of this.

Oh that's right. These women must all be Republicans, so they must deserve it.
