They can go after Iran possibly by sanctions and similar tools, but the language used today was extremely sharp. To put things in perspective, imagine if they use the same language with North Korea.

De-escalate can be done in two ways. Here in Europe, we will always go for the reasonable discussion and calm things down. That works sometimes
You can also posture and remind someone you can obliterate them with your pinky toe if they pull shit you arent having. That works always against a minority but creates friction.
