The fact that people, in (one of) the most economically and technologically advanced countries in the world are seriously considering voting Trump makes me feel less angry at my people for choosing Ahmadinejad in 2006. At least we don't have a democracy and poorer less educated people formed the biggest group of his voters. Now in the US not only does this clown run for presidency, but he also seems to have a fair shot at winning the whole thing.

It's not like they have a better candidate to vote for.

As much as I love spending time in the states, you also need to acknowledge that it's one of the weirdest places on Earth. Look at how morbidly obese people are complaining about fat shaming..

With so many obese people, the path of least resistance is to try to pretend your unhealthy morbid obesity is the norm and a valued lifestyle choice rather than get on a treadmill and sweat off a few cheeseburgers.

But it goes far beyond that. You have people who say that you can be healthy and morbidly obese at the same time. And then they call themselves curvy and 'real' women, in the process thin shaming perfectly normal and healthy people.

That kind of narrative would be met with incredible hostility in Europe. In much the same way people here are instantly turned off by the loud mouth that is Trump. I think our society here is more selfregulating. It has its downsides, but we avoid some of the more insane things.

Your society is much older than ours as well. I like to think of us Americans as unruly teenagers yet to assume responsibility for our actions.

Isn't the term "fat shaming" also a thing in the UK? Not that the UK's obesity rates come close to the USA's.

There's hostility here... but that's because 98% of Americans believe that anyone who thinks they can change public opinion that the morbidly obese are attractive and acceptable are clearly out of their deluded minds. But we let them have their fun, because whatever mental Potemkin village they feel they need to construct to feed their self-delusions and get themselves through the day is something we tolerate rather than shout down.

Perhaps in Europe they would shout it down, but here we just roll our eyes and think, "OK, whatever you want to believe, fatso."

Maybe, yes. But like I said, that has benefits too.

Maybe. In continental Europe not so much. Here we look at morbidly obese people and have zero sympathy for them. I know that sounds cruel, but you have to understand that over here we do judge people. All the time. Even when we say we don't. We are not nearly as forgiving as Americans. And that's not always bad.

I think it would create outrage here and newspapers and media would absolutely destroy the fatties.
