What's interesting with Trump's absurdity is the idea that behind it Bannon etc., are using him to reaffirm the narrative of corrupt DC, media, Liberals and so on. A way to establish power.

The media would be wise to slow down on reporting Trump's nonsense and instead report actual policies and their impact.

Trump is first class derailing.

:agree:

I posted an op-ed on it a few weeks ago, but the media needs to be far less pedantic with how they report on Trump. Focus on the big things, rather than bombarding the public with all this meaningless fact-checking, and so on and so forth. We don't need to know every time Trump exaggerates a statistic, or embellishes a fact... Calling those sorts of thing lies just gives them a soapbox to preach about media dishonesty, pettiness, and biased narratives from, and serves to further desensitize a public.

:agree:

All Hitler comparisons aside. Have a look at 'Hitler: A Career' on Netflix. A great insight in "how to" manipulate a democracy into a dictatorship.

Mind linking to that op-ed again? :)

I understand the point you're both making. And I agree. But a lot of mainstream media just want to be read, watched or heard. And meaningful political critique hardly ever sells.

If you're from the media and you want to go after Trump, I'd say you just have to pick three, maybe four big issues he's wrong on, and keep hammering away at them. Preferably simple things too, because apparently the audience doesn't even grasp the fact that it might not be such a bad idea to have judges protecting the individual from the power of the state.

The impact of repealing Obamacare sells.

And I disagree, I think you are underestimating journalists integrity and idealism.

Owners might be more focused on selling, but journalism is still a very proud craftmanship despite dumbasses liek the australian bogan we have here not understanding it.

I meant on a day to day basis. Trump says something silly everday. A lot of people want to read just that.

Mecca is so modernized these days. Back then it was as clean as it is now. He was disgusted by how dirty the whole experience was. Also he went there with his mother in law :D
By the way I absolutely second your opinion on Saadi love poems. They are the best. Lesser known than Hafiz, but definitely a national treasure.
Exactly. The kind of love he talks about is more earthly than is Hafiz's imo, which is interestingly enough why Saadi's romantic poems are my favorite in the Persian literature :D

FIFY. I don't see any backbone in the current congress to do anything. The cherry on the cake is that with heavily gerrymandered house I don't see much to change after 2018 either.

I still believe that at some point the outrage will be too great. Trump never had the popular vote to begin with and so far it has been one insane decision after the other.

Stuff like this is also starting to become an actual tangible infringement on fundamental rights and freedoms. He is actually starting to offer the legal grounds for impeachment.

In the end I guess it's an all or nothing attempt at a coup.

Popular vote is meaningless in the world of gerrymandering. Look at Ohio house election results from 2016 fr example. the SMALLEST margin among all of the districts is %59.6-%40.4. Democrats are controlling only 4 of 16 districts while 43% of the state voted for Clinton.

The outrage you are hoping for should be in biblical proportions to have any effect. This system is more fragile that I ever thought.

Yes. It should be.

The only way any good can come of this administration is if it ends. Soon. Because it would prove that there are in fact safety mechanisms.

But I guess you're right.
