Himself, i remember you mentioning you study history in undergrad
I think historians should try to look at events with an open mind and from all angles. Examing the hypothesis that the Holocaust was overstated or even partly a hoax is not wrong in itself. Irving has always struck me as a mad antisemitic though (but I admit I'm not too familiar with his actual work).

A well read mind of yours: Just started on Hegel (fuck me  ). Can you recommend some contemporary thinkers/writers who have put some context to Hegel's thoughts and put it in a language more suitable for a layman? :p

I find that the best way to really understand a philosopher is to check out his detractors, in this case i would say check out heidegger and especially russells critique of hegel

I think antisemite is one of the ultimate anti-intellectual words out there, his biographies of goring and goebbels are great, check out his analysis of gas chambers is worth checking

They should.

And it's not, but examining the events for even a few hours and not rejecting the idea completely is either really stupid or driven by some hardcore anti-semitic agenda.

What works of his and why? I know that some books of him, especially the earlier ones, are actually supposed to be quite good.

There are probably a few cases where it's simply used as a way to blindly smack down legitimite criticisms of Israel or some Jewish organisations, but when you're a Holocaust denier it absolutely applies.

It isn't. But it's abused a lot. In this guy's case it's safe to say he is though. But, he was a respected historian at some point and it would be silly to claim he wasn't now.

This. The German nation itself has made no effort of denying the scale of the Holocaust. Why wouldn't they if it wasn't what it seems to be?

There are so many reasons why denying the Holocaust doesn't make any real sense.

I mean there are thousands of witnesses alone, the only way you could deny the whole thing is by claiming that all of them are somehow paid off, without any of them every coming forward even as 80 year olds or something. At this point you're approaching flat-earthers levels of conspiracy theories

Yeah. The easiest argument against his theory is that it's simply impossible. A conspiracy can't possibly work if it involves millions of people worldwide.

I guess you could say the numbers are inflated. But then again everyone is just estimating anyway, it's just that Jews always go for the highest number (as would anyone really).

True, and there have been significant historic debates over the number - though by now the consensus has pretty much settled at around 5.5-6.5 million.

But yeah, that's really about the only argument you could make on this issue.

Don't know where you get the bolded part though, Yad Vashem e.g. goes for 6 million, pretty much in he middle of most modern estimates (and it being a generalisation anyways :p)
