The Wilma correlation isn't a bad one. I know some of the models are showing wind sheer and dry air coming into play as landfall approaches, but it's not a guarantee. Looks like the track is more or less the same as last night with a landfall between Tampa and Fort Myers. It will still have time to shift though.

The really scary thing is the surge potential as outlined by Eric in this tweet. Even if it weakens before landfall, the damage will still be done with all the potential energy shoving the water around before landfall.

Pressure already 935mb and 155mph in just 12 hours. Lightning blowing up in the eye. That's really explosive and not a good sign at all.

It's the modern flat earth movement. The sad thing is, these dipshits are only trying to destroy our infrastructure and ability to predict and respond to weather disasters. If it was up to them, they would knock down all doppler radar towers, ban NOAA and FEMA, and pretty much do nothing in the event of a catastrophe. That's why it's difficult for me to care about some of these people - they don't deserve help.

Is it supposed to weaken as it approaches the coast? Like when does it stop gaining strength?
It should be reaching potential soon.

Then eye wall replacement cycle will begin. As it heads towards the coastline, there should be sufficient wind sheer to spread out the wind field which should weaken it to a 3 or 4, but we’ll see.
