^ Probably because he's a celebrity basically. And I've heard many people say "Casillas is better than Buffon", I've heard it from English people mainly.
they have issues with serie A not just now but rather for the last 17 years when i started watching european football. They always felt inferior to serie A specially during the 90's era. Thats why whenever they have the chance they'll talk trash about the italian football its a sad fact.....

I know, I always hear people saying "Serie A is full of divers, cheating football, it's boring and has crap teams". Makes me furious!

no you are wrong, it starts off with the national teams, ours is very successful, theirs isn't, they from there see us as a bunch of lucky, greasy Italians that always cheat their way to victory, they just can't comprehend that a country roughly the same size as theirs can be so much more sucessful.

I would like to be able to say that some of our players are underated, but I can't, as they are not.

We are what we are: I hope though that one of the lads makes a breakthrough into excellence.

That's possible, debatable. Casillas is great also, plus he is very good at penalties, where Buffon is at Zero level there..

what? no way! Taking a penalty kick is an art. you fool the keeper with the way you shoot, and if the keeper is great in penalties, he will save it. It's about concentration and being quick.

I know Buffon saved some, and some critical ones comes to mind, but comparing him with other keepers in terms of penalty saving, he is under average probably.

It's funny but it might be true. This is why I am saying Casillas could be a more complete goalkeeper than Buffon, I recall Casillas's miraculous saves as well, but discussing this here in Juve forum is pointless I believe.

Exactly its an art for the shooter, not the keeper imo. As you mentioned a lot of factors come into place but eight or nine times out of 10 i would say the kicker missed because the pressure is on him.

But there are goalkeepers that are great in penalties and they are usually not half as good as Gigi. I remember in the past they used to sub in the good penalty goal keepers , didn't see that in a while now.

Sure the luck factor has it's role too, but come you should give the credit to the keepers too. Concentration, handling pressure, quickness etc.. these are how their skills are being measured in terms of penalties.

    someone do the math here.

technically speaking there are 9 areas where the ball goes during a penalty, meaning that a golie by chance only can save about 11% of the penalties. someone should see what buffon's ratio is.

I think that Casillas may well be a better shot stopper than Buffon, but often Casillas' best saves are merely recovering from his own mistakes.

Buffon makes less mistakes and so he is the best.
