I think that Casillas may well be a better shot stopper than Buffon, but often Casillas' best saves are merely recovering from his own mistakes.

Buffon makes less mistakes and so he is the best.
Casillas is probably more agile as well, but when it comes to dealing with aerial threats and one-on-one with an incoming forward, there is no1 better than Buffon...

He is certainly the current best.

Schmeichel was the king of one on one's.

Sure the luck factor has it's role too, but come you should give the credit to the keepers too. Concentration, handling pressure, quickness etc.. these are how their skills are being measured in terms of penalties.
Ofcourse i won't dismiss agility and more importantly winning the mind games with the shooter.

Maybe Allen can help Lawnchair bes with the percentage of penalties :shifty:

Some of Iker's saves do look more spectacular, but that's only because of his mis-positioning in the first place, so he has to literally "fly" to get them, Buffon however seems to always know exactly where to stand, and forced to make reaction saves only for shots from short distance.

Indeed.

You had to lob him, because there was no way round him.
Suker scored so many goals against Schmeichel, i don't even remember how much. He lobbed him, dribbled him, put the ball between Schmeichi's legs. You name it.

But the most spectacular moment wasn't a goal. It was an unsuccessful lob out of nowhere from the middle of the pitch. He almost scored and Schmeichel stood there amazed at what just happened.
When he finally realized what happened, Schmeichel couldn't do nothing but applaud Suker.

Is this thread about Juventus players as I cannot see why anyone would say DP and Trez are underrated?

Everytime Juve come to England, Dp gets the most cheer so fans rate him highly and are not as myopic as they are being made out to be.

Trez scores loads of goals for Juventus and everyone knows how lazy he is and if he scored goals in euro championships and world cups he would have bigger press.

But the fact that he is practically invisible in matches makes it harder to be appreciated to world wide audience that do more than just follow juventus players.

I personally find a lot of Argentines to be underrated as a lot of them are fantastic but do not get as much hype as Italians or English players.

In the past year or so I have read so much about Giovinco and Walcott but they are not that much younger than Aguerro and Messi but the way some talk, you'd think they are their equals.

There are loads of players in the German and French leagues that do not get any mention whatsoever but are fanstatic players.

If you asked me the most underrated seriea player in the last 10 years, I'd go for Javier Zanetti as he is 1 Inter player that if I had money, I would have prized away from that club.

But does he get a mention when they are talking about footballers of the year? Even the just good Dejan Stankovic gets better press coverage
