Cesar wanted by Juve

Juventus may be on the verge of beating Inter in the race to sign Aparecido Rodriguez Cesar.

The Lazio star (pictured) was expected to follow boss Roberto Mancini to the Nerazzurri but Juve could hijack the move.

The Turin giants have turned their attention to the Brazilian given their difficulties in signing Marek Jankulovski.

The Bianconeri have offered £3.5m plus Matteo Brighi but Udinese want £7.5m for the Czech international.

Now Juve are hoping to take advantage of the negotiations that are currently taking place with Lazio for Massimo Oddo.

An offer of £3.5m plus Alessandro Birindelli has been tabled for the right-back but Juve transfer guru Luciano Moggi may modify that bid.

Whispers suggest he will offer £7.5m, Birindelli and Mark Iuliano in exchange for Oddo and Cesar.

The South American is liked by new Juve boss Fabio Capello, who already wanted him at Roma in the past.

However, there are some in Italy who believe that Moggi’s interest in Cesar is simply a ploy to get Udinese to reduce their asking price for Jankulovski.

Perhaps it is a ploy, cooked up by lazio and juve together. Perhaps inter will now give lazio more money for cesar if they are afraid juve will snatch him, and this way jankulovskis price goes down.

Well, udine has stated that janku will leave this summer. and if they need to sell the player and suddenly their big customer is no longer interested cos he costs to much, then they have to lower it in order to still sell the player.

But, what is Jank really worth? I wouldn't pay half of what he's been priced at.

Juve on the defensive Wednesday 14 July, 2004

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lazio’s Massimo Oddo and Fabio Cannavaro of Inter could be Juventus players by the end of this month.

The Bianconeri are expected to sign the right-back yet they are also close to netting the Italian international stopper (pictured).

Reports this morning suggest that Juventus will swoop for Cannavaro by offering striker Marco Di Vaio in a straight swap deal.

Both players and clubs are believed to be happy with the agreement but a problem remains over Cannavaro’s wages.

The Napoli legend earns around £3.2m a season at the San Siro, an amount that is not in line with Juve’s wage structure.

The Old Lady will attempt to convince the player to take a cut in salary in a bid to boost a defence that conceded 42 League goals last term.

Meanwhile, Oddo should soon be unveiled as a Juve player once an agreement is sorted out between the two clubs.

Lazio want £5m but Juve will get that figure reduced by offering Alessandro Birindelli as part of the deal.

The proposed arrivals of Cannavaro and Oddo are likely to see both Igor Tudor and Mark Iuliano leave the Delle Alpi.

Meanwhile, transfer chief Luciano Moggi is hopeful that he can complete the signing of Emerson from Roma.

"It will be wrapped up in the next week," said Juve’s director general. "Hopefully this matter can be resolved as soon as possible for the good of all those involved."

Could well be true, but as I said before, I have nothing against Cannavaro, but a pair with Thuram, wouldn't be the solution for our def. problems.

btw. Tuttosport today linked us with Sol Campbell (  )

Calciomercato wrote that Cambell's contract negotiations with Arsenal went down the drain and Chelsea and Juve are ready to buy him.

I don't beleive this articel though.

Campell is rated pretty highly throughout Europe, I don't entirely agree as he is mistake-prone and often looks like he just doesn't care. As well as he needs a tactically good partner to guide him -> Cannavaro or even Ferrara could do that...
