Looking at it from that point of view, nothing is worth doing. Like writing music, a bunch of lines and circles on paper. Or punching keys on the piano, invoking an incredibly tedious and simplistic mechanical process, resulting in a bunch of sounds.
No sorry. Creation isn't maintenance.

I'm not making an argument. I'm telling you I think it's sad.

But sure.
Not entirely how you phrased it the first time - either that or I must have misunderstood.

Oh well, what's it really matter anyway.

Ok sure. I'll give you the 'giving something back' argument (oh you didn't even make it :D) but as for every else, I don't see it.

And you wanna give something back, get a job with Oxfam or something :D

Anyways it's not a rant, just find it alittle strange that noone else finds it a bit off that we have members in competition for it.

Competition is far too big a word. I just wanted to see if I could beat Zlatan rilly :D

So spending time with people you like and being able to influence what direction the community takes, influencing people (for better or for worse), better understanding human behavior, improving your English (in many cases) isn't worth anything?

Btw playing music isn't creation, it's merely execution. Like mixing water and cement to make concrete.

Who came up with that list?
There was a thread opened a week or so ago for people to nominate potential future mods. The main runners were put on the poll. Pretty simple really.

Playing music. Still dosen't fit. That's learning something, that's still creating something. You create (recreate) the sound.

Each of the above can be done without being a mod except 'direction' and I already said I give you that one.

It comes down to wanting to influence or wanting to wear a badge.

I'm kinda putting most in the badge wearing category though :D
True, true. But the way I see it, if I were to be a mod, I have to be prepared to piss a lot of people off for the greater good. I'm sure Tom would back me up on this one.

A mod has to walk the line between allowing a community and conversation to flourish and stepping in when the food fight gets out of hand and people start brandishing molotovs and take family members hostage.

So in that sense, I do see being a mod as a potentially creative endeavor. Pardon the incredibly cheesy metaphor :)yuck: -- but I couldn't come up with a better one), but I see that being no less creative than, say, being a gardener or wine grower. Seeds must be cultivated. Pests and weeds must be killed. And many of the posters here can walk the fine line between both classifications...that's where a good mod comes in.
