Will have more forward passes behind the opponent's defence in one match than all of last year :tuttosport:

Like Jorginho on steroids :tuttosport:

According to Squawka:

21% of Pjanic's passes were forward passes
23% of Jorginho's passes were forward passes

So there isn't a huge difference there. That's based on about 20 games this season.

But he won't be able to walk come April
Haven't seen him run in 2 years to be honest.

Only 2 through balls for Pjanic though. Our ST never goes in behind, it's not his fault.

Jorginho 10 through balls.

Those stats reflect the reality. We may as well replace Pjanic with Jorginho. Except for the free-kicks, you wouldn't know the difference.

I saw video on twitter where Ronaldo pissed because he did forward run but Pjanic failed to see and opted to do simple sideways pass instead. This guy is just bad
Yes let's base our opinion on a player on one video. Pjanic is a brilliant player and has been one of our most important players for the whole duration of his Juve career. What we need to do is become less dependent on him though. We lose too much at the moment when he's not playing or is marked out of the game.

But how many forward passess he did during his time here? Guess Bonucci did more this season. That one video is enough to sums up his career at Juve.

No one video does not sum up a players career. The situation you are subscribing happens dozens of times during a game. There's nothing dramatic in not spotting a run.

About 40% of his passes are forward. That's pretty much the same as for other players playing in a similar role like Busquets, Jorginho, Kroos or Verratti. When you are that type of dictating midfield player, your job is to keep the ball moving and surprise surprise, that also includes sideways passes. Of course you're free to dislike these type of players and to prefer players with more direct approach. However most on here have cried over a more possession based approach and players like Pjanic, Verratti and Kroos are vital for that.

bonucci plays at the back, of course he'll make more forward passes than a midfielder. also, mandzukic plays up front, so just a fraction of his passes will be directed towards a team mate further up the pitch.

He doesn't. Actually makes less than Chiellini. Small sample size though.

okay, that doesn't make sense to me at all. bonucci plays basically the deepest in our squad. either he passes to szczesny or he passes to someone further up the pitch. now, these stats are suggesting that 61% of the passes bonucci makes are backwards passes. there must be something wrong with it.

this is a typical bonucci game, (defensive fuckup included :seven: ) :

according to squawka, he makes 5,06 forward passes per 90 minutes. now, in this video he makes at least 20 of them. :boh:

I'm not sure how they count a sideways pass, but I'd imagine that a pass between the CBs (which is probably the most common pass Bonucci makes) or pass to the fullback would count as sideways pass.

Squawka gets their data from Opta so it should be pretty accurate. Certainly the most accurate available. However you are certainly right for some reason the back pass stats seem elevated for pretty much everyone. I think they are the wrong way around. So they've categorized the forward passes as backward passes and the other way around. Good spot.
