He has so much potential to go forward. Allegri knows that, but Juventus currently doesn't have someone to replace him as regista.
he can play regista and join attacks from time to time, with Bentancur/Matuidi staying back to protect the defense. Pirlo did that often, he too did that more his 1st 2 seasons but this year does it less

Apart from that beautiful assist, he had an absolute shocker.
Not really. The team as a whole was pretty complacent, but Pjanic was fine today. In 65 minutes he had the assist, 91% pass completion on 88 passes, 4 accurate long balls, 1 through ball, 3 tackles. Wasn't dispossessed once.

His yellow was dumb, and his couple shots from distance were poor. That's it. Hardly a shocker.

Apart of this assist, had an uninspired performance. Lots of wasted shots, some of them without markers too close to him.

Needs to at the very least improve his shooting.

    Great assist tho.

Emre Can is better though. @zizinho :seven:
That he is our best CM on the ball is why he should be one of the CMs with more freedom to go forward and link up with the attackers. When you have Bentancur and Matuidi doing that is often less than impressive.

Why not play Emre Can as our farthest back CM? He is more than good enough on the ball strong in posession to carry the ball out of D and can pass well enough.
There is no need for him to play 40 yard through passes ala Pirlo. Our team is much better now, our attackers should be able to create on their own without looking to run onto a surprise low % pass from deep. Not to mention the dude is real strong, can play a mean tackle and dominates in the air.

If he is marked? No problem he has both Bonucci and Cancelo back there who are more than capable of moving the ball out of a press. Why not have a player back there who is physically imposing and strong in the tackle like Pjanic will never be and have Pjanic in position where he is free to link with attackers and playing brilliant assists like he did today. To Pjanic credit he has put in an awful lot of work under Allegri playing deep, having to defend and compete physically and he has far exceeded what one might have expected of him but he is still not that player.

Some people view our matches through pretty warped glasses.

I wouldn't mind Pjanic being played further forward at all. His tackling, interceptions, and defensive play have improved by leaps and bounds playing as regista in front of the defence, but he doesn't have the vision in that part of the pitch to play the position like Pirlo did, which seems to clearly be what Allegri is asking of him. He had promise there, to begin, but he doesn't have that sublime ability to operate smoothly and pull the strings of the entire match like Pirlo did. Not many ever have, so it's no shame to him.

Giving him freedom to operate further forward and to play in through balls and quick passes around the box might be just what he needs, and a boon to the team. It's hard to say. It's been so long since we've seen him regularly play in a more advanced position.

Both Bentancur and Can could like play in that Regista/CDM position. So i'd be interested to see it at the very least. See if it helps Pjanic unleash his top form again.

Either way, if Matuidi is a guaranteed starter on LCM than RCM should be someone who can offer more in going forward. Matuidi may make the runs but what value does it offer when he is impotent in the final third. The most he offers is an extra body to mark but you pray the ball never goes to him. RCM needs to be breaking the lines or linking up with the front three ala not Can or Bentancur but Bernardeschi, Ramrod or Pjanic. Hard to bench Pjanic of course but his abilities aren't Pirlo's s you said. He doesn't offer that quality of penetration from deep and it shouldn't matter aa our current team has an inifinitely better attacking lineup so we shouldn't need it either.
